굿의 연행론적 접근을 통한 마당극 양식론 연구 (Research of the Styles of the Madanggeuk Through Approach of the Performance´s Style of the Gut)

초록

무굿의 연행론적 특징이 마당극 작품에 어떻게 적용되었고 그 성과와 한계가 무엇인지 정리해 보고 이를 통해 마당극 양식론의 진전을 위한 내용을 추출하는 것이 이 논문의 연구 목적이다.
굿은 ‘연극’으로서의 특징을 지니는 제의이자 총체적 연행이라고 규정할 수 있는다. 굿의식은 각 ‘거리’ 안에서 ‘청신, 오신, 송신’의 3단계가 반복적으로 실현되며 거리별로 완결적 구조를 갖는 옴니버스 스타일로서, 굿이 진행되는 동안 내용의 중층화를 이루는 연산구조를 갖고 있다. 이러한 구조 안에서 인간세상의 살을 풀거나 복을 주기 위한 신을 청하고 돌려보내기를 반복하고 있다. 현세구복적인 굿의 내용과 다양한 놀이, 생활친화적인 굿판의 환경, 악가무의 신명 등은 구경꾼의 적극적인 동참을 이끌어내며 굿판의 신명이 구경꾼에게까지 전이 감화되는 대동의 신명으로 발전되곤 한다. 즉, 굿은 총체적 가무악극이며 열린 연극으로서의 연행적 특징을 갖고 있다.
마당극은 제 무대극의 양식적 폐쇄성을 깨치고 전통연행예술이 지닌 민중적 미의식과 이에 기초한 양식적 특성을 전폭적으로 수용하면서 이루어진 진보적 연극운동의 성과물이다.
굿의 연행적 특징을 토대로 <꽃놀림>, <꽃등들어 님오시면>, <밥꽃수레> 등 세 개의 마당극 작품을 분석해 보았다.
무굿의 가장 큰 기능인 씻김을 통한 치유와 살풀이로서의 신명은 개인의 문제를 넘어 역사적 씻김과 살풀이로 확대되어 표현되었다. 그리고 일상과 영성의 자유로운 전환을 통해 다양한 장면구성을 연출할 수 있었으며 이는 옴니버스 스타일의 연산구조를 한 단계 발전시킬 수 있는 단초를 제공하였다. 또한 관객을 대상화 시키지 않고 구경꾼의 주체적 참여를 통해 굿판을 완성시키는 굿적 심성을 적극적으로 받아들여 관중과의 소통을 위한 다양한 장치를 마련하고 있다.
하지만 마당극의 주요 미의식이라 할 수 있는 신명의 내재적 동인으로서의 ‘놀이정신’과 삶의 다양한 양태를 끌어안는 마당의 개방적 포용성을 이르는 ‘마당정신’의 실현을 위해서 굿놀이에 대한 깊이 있는 이해와 적용이 필요하리라 생각된다. 굿놀이의 오브제의 상징적 활용, 즉흥극, 역할바꾸기 등의 다양한 연행 방식을 적극 활용한다면 열린 연극으로서의 마당극의 극적 표현을 더욱 풍부하게 해 줄 것이다.
민중적 미의식으로서의 신명은 집단적 신명으로 발전하여 현재의 질곡을 이겨내고 새로운 삶이나 싸움을 시작하는 에너지로 작용하였다. 그동안 마당극에서의 신명은 집단적 신명의 출렁거리는 힘을 전투적 신명으로 확대 외화 시키는 것에 주력하였다. 그 과정에서 개별 신명은 전체 속에 귀속되어 각각 다른 신명, 개체들의 신명을 드러내는 것은 취약했다. 극의 전개와 결과에 따라 내면화되는 신명과 전투적 신명, 그리고 개별적 신명과 집단적 신명 등 다양한 형태의 신명에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 굿의 죽음과 삶을 초탈한 시간과 공간 개념은 시간과 공간의 자유로운 다차원적 재구성을 통해 극의 구성과 흐름을 변화무쌍하게 가져가며 극적 역동성을 부여 할 수 있을 것이다.
마당극 양식론의 진전을 위해 굿놀이의 확대, 개별 신명의 발현과 신명의 내재화, 시간과 공간의 자유로운 다차원적 재구성을 과제로 설정해 보았다.

영어초록

The purpose of this thesis is to examine how to select the contents from the gut (shaman rituals) for the development of Madanggeuk ('Open Air Theatre', or field play), how to apply the feature of the gut (shaman rituals) to Madanggeuk, and what the result and the limit of applying the gut to Madanggeuk is.


The gut is the rituals as well as the multi-model plays keeping the feature of dramas. It is represented as the sequential performance of the three segments such as Chungshin(calling a sprit), Oushin( being possessed by a sprite), and Songshin(disembodying a sprite). Each segment has the complexity of contents as the omnibus style which has a completed structure while the guk is performed. In this process, Mudang(shaman) hold the gut in order to cure illness, to cleanse the sprite of a deceased person, or to propitiate gods to gain fortune for people in this community. The Mudang makes spectators actively engaged in the performance by the features of secular beliefs, multi model plays, friendly environments, exhilarated music, song and drama in the gut. The gut is the whole singing and dancing opera and it has the feature of the play which is opened.


Madanggeuk is the result of progressive drama movement which adapt the characteristics of the aesthetic sense of Korean people in the korean traditional plays. In this paper, <Kkutnollym (the movement of flowers>, <Kkutdeugdeula Nymoshimyoun (the coming lover holding the lantern of a flower)> were analyzed by the features of the gut.
The most important function of the gut which is the healing through cleansing the sprites and the spiritual exhilaration through melting away embodied problems, has been expressed in the healing and cleansing troubles in the Korean history beyond individual problems of Korean people. Through daily and divine nature free conversion, it was able to produce the scene composition which is various and it was able to provide single component to develop the structure of the omnibus style.
Moreover, the gut accepts the system which is various for being understood of the spectators through completing the shaman performance not by treating the spectators as objective viewers but by treating them as subjective participants.
It is necessary to understand and apply the depth of the gut (shaman rituals) to realize “Madang Sprite” that is the important aesthetic sense of the field play which embrace the opened adaptability of Madang (field). The dramatic expressions in the Madanggeuk can be more abundant when the symbolic application of shamanism, the improvisational plays, and the reversed role plays in the gut( shaman rituals) can actively apply into Madanggeuk.
When shinmyoung (spiritual exhilaration) as Korean people's aesthetic sense is developed into shinmyoung as the spiritual exhilaration of community, Madanggeuk tides over new starts a life or a fight with the energy to overcome the troubles from the present time. Playing Madanggeuk has magnified the flowing power of the spiritual exhilaration of community into the exhilaration of fight against political oppression. From this process, individual spiritual exhilaration reverts in the whole inside and it was weak to distinguish individual differences of spiritual exhilaration from the spiritual exhilaration of community. It is necessary to research the various forms of spiritual exhilarations such as individual spiritual exhilaration, the spiritual exhilaration of community, inwardly exhilaration, and outwardly exhilaration depending on the process of Madanggeuk.
The concept of space and time in the gut (shaman rituals) beyond the life and death will be able to give dramatic dynamics to Madanggeuk through multi dimensional recomposition of the gut. For the development of various forms of Madanggeuk in the future. to broaden shaman plays, to express individual shinmyoung, to embody shinmyoung, and to create multi dimensional recomposition can be more researched.
