초록

This study considers the time when art was studied as a realm of the thinking system, giving an academic approach to dance. As opposed to western art theory, in which spiritual study of dance started in the 20th century, the spiritual study of Korean dance dates back to ancient society. In the Korean thinking system, dance is a manifestation of harmony and an act to release something smoldering in ones heart. On this basis, there is a moderate mind which is intensive and, at the same time, observes rules and regulations. This art theory of the style of Korean dance can be summarized as follows: oDance as a manifestation of <hwa harmony> (togetherness) means a combination between component factors such as audience and dancers, music and dance, costume and dance, fine art and dance, but ultimately it aims to combine essential elements such as humans and nature, heaven and earth. In other words, it pursues harmony between individuals through hormonal relations of human beings who are supposed to have different viewpoints on the world. (It is represented as 'yin' and 'yang' in the oriental concept.) oDance for <hae release>(an act of release) should be based on sarcasm and humor. Even though heavy or serious themes are dealt with, such as social matters - conflict in classes, nations and races - dance should seek for pleasure (expressed as nak in the oriental concept and 'pleasure' in the western concept). In this case, pleasure should be objectified and not yielded.
o<Jung Moderation> (balance and observation of rules and regulations) for objectified pleasure is regarded as the basic mind and attitude of dance, because it is a necessary condition for audiences who watch and listen, in order to give them an impression, and not just for one individual alone to enjoy.
