초록

탈식민주의 이론은 식민주의와 제국주의의 관점에서 문화적인 관계를 연구하고 분석하며 식민지에서 일어나는 정치, 문화, 경제적인 착취와 억압에 대하여 다룬다. 이러한 관점과 방법론은 초대교회의 예전과 삶을 형성한 사회정치적 상황과 환경을 살펴보는데도 사용될 수 있다. 탈식민주의 이론을 통해 기독교성찬을 바라보면 성만찬의 개혁적 속성은 물론이고 배려와 포용과 같은 주제들도 효과적으로 발견할 수 있다.
이 연구의 첫 번째 부분에서는 성찬의 의미와 참여자들의 자격에 치중되어있는 기존의 성찬연구의 역사와 공헌을 다룬다. 덧붙여 성찬에 대한 이해에 있어서 그리스도의 희생과 죽음에 대한 기념이라는 주제가 지나치게 강조되어 천국에서의 잔치를 미리 맛보고 기대하는 종말론적 속성, 즉 프롤렙시스적 성찬이해가 경시되었음도 지적한다. 필자는 탈식민주의 이론으로 기존의 성찬이해에 새로운 시각을 제공하고자 한다.
두 번째 장에서는 탈식민주의 이론의 중요한 개념들 중에서 ‘혼종성’과 ‘제 3의 공간’에 대한 소개와 분석을 통해 성찬이 담지하고 있는 종말론적 속성을 논한다. 성찬은 저항과 포용의 공간이다. 그리스도 안에서 모든 참여자들은 성찬이라는 제 3의 공간에서 그들의 사회적 계층을 뛰어넘어 평등한 관계를 갖는다. 이러한 측면에서 성찬은 성숙한 혼종을 통한 화해의 시간이자 공간이 되는 것이다.
세 번째 장은 성찬이 가지고 있는 종말론적 속성을 담고 있다. 성찬은 천국의 잔치를 미리 경험하는 것임과 동시에 바울이 강조 하는 대로 ‘그가 오시기까지“ 계속 실천해야하는 예전이다. 바울은 성찬을 통해 참여자들이 가져야 할 윤리적 의무와 새로운 패러다임으로 살아가는 세상에 대한 기대를 갖게 된다고 강조한다. 이런 측면에서 탈식민주의적 연구를 통해 기독교의 세례와 성찬이 갖는 불가분의 관계가 더 명료해진다. 세례는 성령의 역사를 통해 이항대립이 사라진 제 3의 공간에서의 새로운 세상을 꿈꾸게 해준다. 성찬은 세례를 통해 제 3의 공간으로 들어온 모든 참여자들이 그리스도안에서 천국잔치를 맛보는 새로운 삶의 구체적 실현이다.
네 번째 장은 탈식민주의적 분석이 갖고 있는 의의와 공헌, 그리고 필자의 제언을 담았다. 탈식민주의라는 새로운 안목을 통해 성찬이 성숙한 조화, 정의를 향한 소망, 천국잔치에 대한 기대를 담은 의미 있는 예전임을 제시한다.
결론적으로 성찬은 환대와 혼종성, 그리고 천국잔치에의 소망이 선포되고 실현되는 제 3의 공간이다.

영어초록

Postcolonialism understands and analyzes cultural interrelations from the perspectives of colonialism and imperialism. It deals with the political, cultural and economic exploitation of the colonized. This particular methodology could be applied to examine the socio-political environment that gave shape to the liturgy and life of early Christians. If one carefully studies Holy Communion through a Postcolonial interpretation, one can effectively find inclusiveness and hospitality as well as revolutionary characteristics of Holy Communion.
The first part of this article deals with the history and contributions of existing academic works which mainly focus on the theological meaning of the eucharist and the exclusiveness of the participants. In addition, the memorial motive of Holy Communion has been strongly emphasized, so that Prolepsis, the eschatological anticipation and foretaste of the heavenly banquet, is not fully employed in the practice of the sacrament. The writer challenges the traditional understanding of the eucharist by introducing postcolonial approaches.
The second chapter articulates the eschatological nature of the eucharist through an analysis of 'hybridity' and 'the third space,' the core concepts of Postcolonial studies. The eucharist is a place of resistance and inclusiveness. In Christ, the participants become equal regardless of their social status in this 'third space.' In this respect, the eucharist is the moment and place of reconciliation with mutual hybridity.
The third part contains the ethical and eschatological characteristics of Holy Communion. Holy Communion is a sacrament for tasting the heavenly banquet in advance, and Paul emphasizes that participants should practice this ritual 'until He comes.' He stresses both the ethical responsibility of the participants and their hope and expectation for the world of a new paradigm through Holy Communion. In this respect, the inseparable relationship between Christian Initiation and Holy Communion becomes clearer through postcolonial studies. Christian Baptism opens a new door for hybridity and the third space. It is also the starting point for a new world of peace and justice by the work of the Holy Spirit and Holy Communion is the reality of this new life where participants encounter and experience the heavenly banquet in Christ.
The fourth part notes the significance and contribution of the understanding from Postcolonialism. Through the lenses of postcolonial analysis, Holy Communion is interpreted as a significant sacrament which advocates mutual harmony, hope for justice, and expectation of the banquet in heaven. This new methodology can be a positive challenging resource for Korean Christianity in terms of theology and the practice of Holy Communion.
In conclusion, Holy Communion is the third space where hybridity, hospitality, and prolepsis are proclaimed and accomplished from the perspective of Postcolonialism.
