산테리아에 대한 쿠바 대학생들의 인식 연구 (A study on the perception of Cuban University students about Santería)

초록

As a result of syncretism between the Belief of the Yoruban people and the Catholicism Santería has raised in Cuba. The Afro-Cuban religious traditions of Santería has flourished since the early colonial period and has become to perform one of the major religious thoughts and ritual activities of the contemporary cuban people, affirming their identity as Afro-Latin American socio-cultural doers. The religion as the black heritage from Africa has been recognised not by the consistent perception, but by the fluctuant and inconsistent viewpoints. Therefore this study is to make a basic investigation to know about how the young cuban elites think of Santería and to prospect the social phase of it. It’s fundamentally obvious that the faith and rituals of Santería are valid phenomenon in the modern Cuban society. The absolute majority of the respondents consider it positive to unite the cuban people and help them in trouble. The very positive socio-cultural functions of the belief could be the solidarity between them and the traditional and positive perception for their identity. Despite of some negative elements that the belief and rituals of Santería have, many respondents prefer the attitude of tolerance, so that each individual could experience it and evaluate it as he could, rejecting the possibility of the intervention of the Cuban government and the Cuban Catholic Church. It is supposed that Santería would become more active and positive in Cuban Society in next generation.
