의사출신 영주귀국 사할린 한인들의 생애사를 통해 본소련 시기 한인의사들의 의학교육과 진료경험 (Reconstructing the Medical Education and Clinical Experiences of Ethnic Korean Medical Doctors During the Soviet Era through the Life Histories of Retired Medical Doctors among Ethnic Return Migrants )

초록

이 연구의 목적은 한국으로 귀환한 사할린 한인 전직 의료인의 생애사를 통해 이들의 교육과 직업경험을 재구성하는 것이다. 이를 통해 소련의 사회 주의 의학교육과 의료제도의 일단을 재현하고 구소련에서 소수민족 구성원 으로서 사할린 한인들이 의료전문직을 가진다는 것의 생애사적, 사회사적 의미를 탐색하고자 하였다. 소련 내의 한인 의료인에 대한 선행연구가 부재 한 가운데 한국과는 다른 문화적 맥락에서의 직업경험을 알아보기 위해 연구 참여자들이 주도적으로 자신의 경험을 말하는 생애사 방법이 채택되었 다. 소련에서 의사로 일을 한 네 명의 생애사가 기록되고 시간 순으로 정리 되었고 그 결과가 이들이 의학교육을 받던 시기의 소련의료를 기록한 문헌 과 비교되었다. 생애사는 크게 의과대학 입학 전의 삶, 의과대학에서의 교 육, 그리고 의사생활 등으로 분류되었고 의과대학 입학 전의 삶은 사할린 이주와 정착, 해방이후 부모세대의 삶, 고등학교까지의 학업으로, 의과대학 에서의 교육은 소련의 의학교육제도와 입시제도, 의대 진학동기, 의과대학 에서의 훈련과 생활 그리고 전문의 교육 등으로 범주화되었다. 마지막으로 의사 생활은 소련의 의료제도, 배치와 소속, 진료와 일상, 급여･복지･승진, 끝으로 한인 의사로서의 지위 등에 대한 이야기로 구성되었다. 이 연구는 재러한인 전문직의 직업경험을 기록함으로써 재외한인 인식의 지평을 넓히 는 동시에 한 이산 집단의 소멸하게 될 경험을 역사화하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 소수의 사례를 중심으로 한 시험적인 시도이다. 이후 전체 재소한인 의료인에 대한 연구로 확대할 필요가 있다

영어초록

This study is to reconstruct the educational and occupational experiences of retired ethnic Korean medical doctors in the USSR and Russia, who were the children of Korean immigrants to South Sakhalin during the Japanese colonial era who then returned to Korea after retirement, by documenting and analysing their life histories. In doing so, it represents the socialist system of medical education and institute in the Soviet Union, and investigates what it meant in personal and social terms for ethnic Koreans in Sakhalin to have a medical profession in the former USSR as a minority group. Due to the lack of existing literature on ethnic Korean medical professionals in the Soviet Union, life history methods were adopted for the participants to lead in telling their occupational experiences from a different cultural background to Korea.
The life histories of four former medical doctors who had practiced in the USSR and Russia were documented and categorised chronologically and they were compared with academic literature on Soviet medicine and medical education in the 1960s. The contents of the four life histories were divided into three broad categories: the life before entering medical school, education in the institutions and working as medical doctors. The first part was further divided into movement and settlement into Sakhalin, the life of the first generation Korean immigrants in the islands after 1945 and schooling until high school. The second section into the medical education system of the Soviet Union, reasons the participants chose a medical career, the training and life in medical school and specialist training. The last part consists of the medical system in the USSR, duty assignments and placements of doctors, the ways of practice and everyday life of medical doctors, remuneration･work welfares･promotion and the social status of ethnic Korean medical doctors.
This work of documenting the occupational experiences of ethnic Koreans in Russia will contribute to widening the knowledge about overseas Koreans and historicising the experiences of a diaspora community that may soon disappear. However it is only a pilot study with small case numbers and warrants further study including medical professionals in Russia as a whole.
