『春官通考』 소재 文廟祭禮 佾舞圖의 史料的 가치 연구 (A Study on Historical Value of Munmyojerye 文廟祭禮 Ilmudo 佾舞圖 Recorded in Chun-gwan-tong-go 春官通考)

초록

이 논문은 『춘관통고』 소재 일무도의 유래와 내용의 정확성을 중심으로 사료적 가치를 살펴 문묘제례 일무의 올바른 전승 방향을 제시하는데 목적이 있다. 『춘관통고』 소재 일무도는 『반궁예악서』 소재 일무도와 동일함에도 당시에 행했던 것이라는 뜻의 ‘今儀’라고 기록되어 있다. 따라서 『춘관통고』 소재 일무도가 『반궁예악서』의 일무도를 그대로 모사하여 수록한 것인지, 아니면 당시 조선에서 행했던 일무 제도를 기록해 놓은 것인지를 밝혀야 이 일무도의 사료적 가치 여부를 판단할 수 있다.
『춘관통고』 소재 일무도의 사료적 가치는 『춘관통고』 소재 일무도가 당시의 것을 반영하고 있는지 여부와 우리나라에 전승되어온 일무를 정확하게 기록하고 있는지 여부에 있다. 『춘관통고』 소재 일무도의 유래, 악장, 춤의 종류, 의물, 복식, 일무를 추는 제례 절차를 중심으로 사료적 가치를 살펴보았으며 그 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 『춘관통고』 소재 일무도에 기록된 춤의 종류, 악장, 의물, 복식에 관한 내용은 『춘관통고』 본문에 기록된 것과 서로 다르다. 『춘관통고』 본문의 일무의 종류와 의물․복식 등과 관련된 내용은 조선전기의 기록 및 현재 전승되는 것과 일치하고, 악장의 변화된 내용과 역사적 사실이 분명히 기록되어 있다. 이와같이 『춘관통고』 본문의 내용이 당시 일무 제도를 반영하고 있는 반면 일무도는 이와 일치하지 않는 모순을 안고 있다. 즉 『춘관통고』는 문묘제례 일무와 관련한 기록에 있어서 내재적으로 모순을 지니며, 일무도의 내용은 당시 일무 제도와 관련 없다.
둘째, 문묘제례 일무와 관련하여 『춘관통고』 본문에 기록이 없거나 부족한 춤의 종류, 악장, 일무를 추는 제례 절차 등을 『국조오례의』와 『악학궤범』의 기록 및 현행 제도와 비교해 본 결과 일무도에 기록된 내용과 서로 다르게 나타났다. 즉 『춘관통고』 외 관련 기록과 비교해 보았을 때 『춘관통고』 소재 일무도의 기록을 『춘관통고』 당시 일무 제도로 보기 어렵다.
이상과 같이 『춘관통고』 소재 일무도는 『춘관통고』 내의 관련 기록 및 『춘관통고』 외 관련 문헌의 기록과 일치하지 않는 반면 『반궁예악서』 소재 일무도와 일치한다. 즉 『춘관통고』 소재 일무도에 ‘今儀’라는 기록이 있지만, 이것은 당시의 제도를 기록해 놓은 것이 아니라 『반궁예악서』의 일무도를 그대로 모사해 놓은 것이며, 사료로서 가치를 인정하기 어렵다.
『춘관통고』는 정조 당시의 국가의식과 관련된 상징물의 변화를 상당부분 담아내고 있지만 완전하지 않다. 『춘관통고』에 당시 일무 제도와 다른 『반궁예악서』의 일무도를 모사하여 수록하고 ‘금의’라고 기록해 놓은 것도 『춘관통고』의 문헌적 불완전성의 한 맥락으로 보인다. 『춘관통고』가 조선후기 전례 연구에 주요 참고 자료이기는 하지만, 『춘관통고』 소재 일무도는 당시의 문묘제례 일무와 관련없는 까닭에 사료적 가치를 인정하기 어려우며, 이것을 수용함에 있어서 신중함이 요구된다고 하겠다.

영어초록

This paper aims to examine the historical value of the ilmudo recorded in “Chun-gwan-tong-go” with a focus on the history of ilmudo and its exactness, and to present the right direction in succeeding to the Munmyojerye ilmudo. Although the ilmudo recorded in “Chun-gwan-tong-go” was the same with the ilmudo recorded in “Ban-gung-ye-ak-seo”, it has a mark of “geum-eui”今儀, which implies it was conducted at that time. Accordingly, it is essential to examine whether it is a reproduction that copied out the ilmudo recorded in “Ban-gung-ye-ak-seo”, otherwise, whether it is a record that recorded the ilmu system which was performed during that time of Joseon dynasty in order to determine its historical value.
The historical value of the ilmudo recorded in “Chun-gwan-tong-go” depends on whether it reflects what was in the past, and whether it exactly recorded the ilmu which has transmitted from generation to generation in Korea. This paper examines its historical value with a focus on its origin, movements, dancing types, ritual items, costume, and the ritual procedure of dancing ilmu. The results are described in the followings: First, the descriptions of dancing types, movements, ritual items, and costume recorded in the ilmudo recorded in “Chun-gwan-tong-go” are different from those recorded in the body of “Chun-gwan-tong-go”. Those recorded in the body of “Chun-gwan-tong-go” are identical to records in the early Joseon and what has transmitted to date, and the body of “Chun-gwan-tong-go” definitely contains varied movements and historical facts. As seen, the contents in the body of “Chun-gwan-tong-go” reflect the ilmu system at that time, but not ilmudo, which shows some inconsistency. In other words, “Chun-gwan-tong-go” is inconsistent in the records concerning Munmyojerye ilmu, and ilmudo is not related to the ilmu system at that time.
Second, with regard to Munmyojerye ilmu, as a result of comparing dancing types, which are absent or insufficient in the body of “Chun-gwan-tong-go”, movements, ritual procedure of dancing ilmu with the records in “Gukjo-orye-eui” and “Akkak-gwebeom” and the current system, they are found to be different from the descriptions recorded in the ilmudo. In other words, when examining related records other than “Chun-gwan-tong-go”, it is not considered that the ilmudo recorded in “Chun-gwan-tong-go” is regarded as the ilmu system at that time when “Chun-gwan-tong-go” was written.
As shown above, the ilmudo recorded in “Chun-gwan-tong-go” is inconsistent with the related records in “Chun-gwan-tong-go” and other related records other than “Chun-gwan-tong-go”. However, it is consistent with that recorded in “Bangung-ye-ak-seo”. More specifically, although the ilmudo recorded in “Chun-gwan-tong-go” contains the word “geum-eui”今儀, it is a reproduction of the ilmudo in “Bangung-ye-ak-seo”, not the descriptions of the system at that time. Accordingly, it is not available to recognize its historical value.
Although “Chun-gwan-tong-go” covers changes in symbolic items related to national rituals at the reign of King Jeongjo, it is incomplete. The fact that “Chun-gwan-tong-go” reproduced and recorded the ilmudo from “Bangung-ye-ak-seo”, which was different from the then ilmu system and represented “geum-eui”今儀 may show the incomplete context of “Chun-gwan-tong-go” as literature. Although “Chun-gwan-tong-go” is an important material in studying rituals in the late Joseon dynasty, it is not available to recognize its historical value concerning the ilmudo recorded in “Chun-gwan-tong-go” because it is not associated with the Munmyojerye ilmudo at that time. Accordingly, prudent attention is required before accepting it.
