동궐도의 평행사선구도와 건축 표현특성 (Parallel Diagonal Linesand and the Characteristics of Architectural Expressionin in the Donggwoldo(東闕圖))

초록

The Donggwoldo (東闕圖 : Painting of the Eastern Palaces) uses in a complex way building depiction methods to which traditional painting techniques and architectural drawing methods have been applied. This study seeks to summarize such methods and their characteristics by analyzing the expressive methods found in the painting. As for the Donggwoldo, the epochality and context of traditional painting manifest themselves in the portrayal of the terrain of the mountains in the background and trees found in traditional paintings, and drawing methods used from earlier eras are applied to the depiction of buildings. When the expressive methods used in the depiction of buildings in this work were analyzed in detail, however, diverse methods were discovered to have been used in a free and complex manner according to the direction and intention of production instead of uniform subordination to the framework of drawing methods. In other words, in this painting: hierarchy is highlighted through the mixed use of the upward-gazing bird’s-eye view and downward-gazing worm’s-eye view techniques; elements such as angles are arbitrarily modified according to the composition and arrangement of the screen in order to coordinate formal expressions; and the actual forms of buildings are depicted in a compressed manner in order to show the buildings in a clear and balanced manner on the entire screen.
