초록

당대에는 일상의 의식주에서 오락, 관혼상제에 이르기까지 사치풍조가 만연하였다. 당 전반기 지배계층인 귀족들에 국한 되었던 사치풍조는 안사의 난 이후 당 후반기에 이르면 일반 민의 생활전반에 영향을 미치게 되었다. 이에 당조는 사치풍조를 제한하기 위하여 禁令의 반포를 통해 근검을 강조하였다.
국가는 사치금령을 통해 무너져 가는 신분질서와 사치풍조를 바로잡고, 유교적 사상의 영향 하에서 사치를 비난하며 검약을 표방하였지만, 사치성 전사회 계층으로 확대되었다. 국가는 계속해서 사치금지령을 반포하여 이를 규제하고자 하였다.
현종대부터 늘어나기 시작한 사치금령의 반포는 문종 즉위 초에 더욱 확대되어 거의 해마다 사치금령이 반포되었지만, 당 후기 사치풍조는 근절되지 않았다. 해상교역을 비롯한 대외교역의 확대로 진귀한 외래품 및 사치품이 끊임없이 당 사회에 유통되면서 사치품의 소비는 계속하여 증대하였다. 결국 대외교역의 활성화를 통한 외래품 및 사치품 유통의 확대와 상품경제의 발전은 당대 사치풍조의 만연을 불러왔다. 이에 문종은 즉위 초부터 사치금령의 금령을 통해 신분질서를 회복하고 국가의 지배력을 확보하고자 하였으나 실효를 거두지 못한 채, 문종 통치 후반에 이르면 사치뿐만 아니라 사회적 혼란까지 가중되며 금령을 통한 사치규제는 어찌할 수 없는 상황에 이르게 되었다.

In this social atmosphere, luxury is no longer limited to the ruling class, but has led to a luxurious life for the general public.
