강릉단오제의 문화관광 특징과 활성화 방향 (A Study on the Cultural Tourism Characteristics and Development Directions of Gangneung Danoje Festival)

초록

본 연구는 우리나라의 대표적인 지역축제로 인정받고 있는 강릉단오제를 대상으로 축제의 성립배경과 과정,문화관광 특징 및 활성화 방향을 고찰하였다. 연구 수행을 위해, 강릉단오제를 포함한 축제관련 문헌조사와 사진을이용한 현지조사를 실시하였다. 강릉단오제는 우리나라 전통축제 중 가장 오랜 역사를 갖고 있으며, 그 목적은 지역에 전해지는 산신에 대한 제의, 마을과 가정에 대한 안녕 및 풍년을 기원하는데 있다. 또한 1967년 국가중요무형문화재 제13호로 지정되었으며, 2005년 유네스코 세계인류구전 및 무형유산걸작으로 등록되어 문화의 우수성을 인정받은 사례이다. 2014 강릉단오제는 5월 31일부터 6월 7일까지 열렸으며, 제의와 지정문화재(단오굿, 관노가면극, 강릉농악), 민속놀이(씨름, 그네, 줄다리기, 투호, 윷놀이) 및 난장과 편의시설로 구성되었다. 강릉단오제의 활성화를 위해 다음과 같은 방향성이 필요하다. 첫째, 축제 전승과 무형문화재 보존에 대한 국가의 적극적인 인적자원관리가 효율적으로 이루어져야 한다. 둘째, 축제의 질적 저하를 가져올 수 있는 프로그램을 현실성 있게 조정하는 것과 시설보완, 운영체제관리 적절성이 요구된다. 셋째, 축제의 재미와 만족도를 높일 수 있는 다양한 콘텐츠 구성이 필요하며,콘텐츠개발과 함께 단오제관련 캐릭터를 적극적으로 활용하거나 기념품화 할 필요가 있다. 넷째, 단오제와 지역의타 축제를 교류하는 적극적인 연계마케팅이 필요하다. 다섯째, 외국인 수용태세 강화가 필요하며, 이를 위해 국제적지역마케팅 전략을 세워야 한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this paper is to describe the festival establishment and creating process, cultural tourismcharacteristics, and development directions of ‘The Gangneung Danoje Festival’. In order to achieve the purpose,the researcher conducted the literature review and field survey by using photos. Gangneung Danoje has the longesthistory among Korean local festivals and its main purpose is to worship the guardian spirit of a mountain whichprotects the town and pray for the peace of the town and all families and prosperity of farming. It was designatedas Korean Important Intangible Cultural Properties(No. 13) in 1967 and as one part of Korea’s Masterpieces of theOral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2005. 2014 Gangneung Danoje was held from May 31to June 7 and was composed of traditional memorial ceremonies, many cultural events(Danogut, GangneungGwanno Gamyeongeuk, and traditional Korean music performed by farmers), traditional folk games(ssireum,swing, tug of war, arrows throwing game and yunnori) and other programs and events(festival market and convenient facilities). The following development directions for the festival can be made: First, nationallysupported human resources management for the effectiveness of the transmission system of Gangneung Danoje andthe protection of it’s Intangible Cultural Properties are needed. Second, meaningless and crude programs should bephased out due to festival event degradation. Also it is needed that facility supplement for the festival and theappropriate use of the operational system management. Third, the various compositions of contents need to bedeveloped in order to increase interest and satisfaction for the festival tourist. Together with contents development,the effective use of Danoje related characters and the coproduction of tourism souvenirs are required. Forth, therelationship marketing among Danoje and other festivals in Gangneung is required. Fifth, the global regionalmarketing strategies to increase the demand for foreign tourists should be established.
