신임경찰관의 다문화 인식에 관한 연구 (A Study on Multiculture Awareness by New Police Officials)

초록

이 연구의 목적은 우리사회의 다문화시대에 신임경찰관의 다문화 인식에 대하여 연구함으로서 신임경찰관의 다문화교육의 방향을 제시하고자 하는데 있다. 이러한 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 이 연구는 신임경찰관을 대상으로 2015년 6월 1일부터 7월 1일까지 다문화에 대한 인식을 알아보기 위한 설문조사를 실시하였다. 신임경찰관의 다문화에 대한 인식으로서 다문화 경험과 인식, 다문화 교육의 경험과 인식, 다문화 업무에 대한 관심도로 나누어 살펴보았다.
이 연구의 분석결과는 다음과 같이 나타났다.
첫째, 다문화에 대한 신임경찰관의 전체적인 인식은 ‘보통정도’인 것으로 나타났다. 요인별 평균점수로 비교해 보았을 때 신임경찰관은 다문화에 대한 존중성(M=4.10) 요인의 평균점수가 가장 높게 나타났으며, 그 다음으로 다문화 수용성(M=3.70), 다문화 개방성(M=3.50), 기타(M=3.40)요인 순으로 나타났다.
둘째, 다문화 교육에 대한 신임경찰관의 인식은 ‘보통정도’인 것으로 나타나고 있다. 요인별 평균점수로 비교해 보았을 때 신임경찰관들은 다문화 교육의 필요성에 대한 인식(M=4.10)요인과 신임경찰관의 다문화 교육의 중요성에 대한 인식(M=4.10)요인이 가장 높게 나타났으며, 다문화 교육에 대한 인식(M=3.10점)은 비교적 낮게 나타났다.
셋째, 다문화업무에 대한 신임경찰관의 관심도는 ‘귀하가 수행하는 직무가 다문화와 직간접적으로 관련이 있다고 생각하십니까?’에서는 예가 87.14%(243명)로 아니오 12.9%(36명)보다 높게 나타났으며, ‘다문화 직무를 하고 싶은 의향이 있습니까?’는 예가 77.1%(215명)로 아니오 22.9%(64명)보다 높게 나타났다, 넷째, 다문화 인식에 대한 신임경찰관의 일반적 특성에 따른 차이를 보면, 성별에 따라서만 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 여자(M=4.03)가 남자(M=3.86)보다 다문화 인식이 높게 나타났다(p<0.05).
다섯째, 다문화 교육에 대한 신임경찰관의 일반적 특성에 따른 인식의 차이를 살펴보면, 연령과 교육정도에서 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 연령에 대해서 살펴보면, 36∼40세(M=3.71)가 다른 연령보다 다문화교육에 대한 인식이 높게 나타났고(p<0.01), 교육정도는 대학원 이상(M=3.66)이 고졸(M=2.91), 대학교 재학(M=3.12), 대학교 중퇴(M=3.05)보다 다문화 교육에 대한 인식이 높게 나타났다(p<0.01).
이 연구의 결과를 종합해 보면, 신임경찰관의 다문화 수용성을 높이기 위한 교육이 확대되어야 할 것이며, 다문화교육에 대한 전반적인 인식을 높이기 위하여 신임경찰관들에게 다문화 경험활동에 대한 제반적 기회를 넓혀주고 다각적인 교육과정 프로그램이 선행되어야 할 것임을 보여준다. 마지막으로, 신임경찰관들이 다문화에 대한 포괄적인 관점을 가질 수 있도록 신임경찰 교육 프로그램의 개발이 함께 이루어져야 할 것이다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study.
