다문화 시민사회의 실태와 방향 －다문화이주여성의 사회적응을 중심으로－ (The Conditions and Directions of the Multicultural Civic Society: focusing on the Social Adaptation of the Multicultural Woman Immigrants)

초록

이 연구는 다문화이주여성들의 사회적응의 실태를 일상생활 차원에서 밝히고, 그들의 적응상에 드러난 문제점을 중심으로 다문화 시민사회의 가능성을 타진하는데 있다. 일상생활 차원의 실태파악은 우리의 내부적 모순구조를 밝히는데 유용하며 동시에 다문화 시민사회의 정립에도 기여할 것이다. 그들의 사회적응 관련 일상생활적 파악은 포커스그룹 인터뷰방법으로 진행되었다. 5년 이상 우리사회에 거주했던 이주여성들을 연구대상으로 하였으며, 문화적, 가정적, 언어적 영역에서 그들의 사회적응 실태를 분석하였다. 그들은 기존주민들의 차가운 사회적 시선과 문화차이에서 적응의 어려움을 겪었고, 또 우리의 뿌리 깊은 가부장제와 이중적 문화잣대에서 좌절감과 실망감을 피력하였으며, 언어를 비롯한 문화적 차별과 자녀교육의 어려움을 경험하였다. 그들의 적응실태를 염두에 둘 때 다문화 시민사회의 정립은 우리 시대의 핵심과제로 부각된다. 다문화 시민사회는 문화의 복수성에 토대한 다양성 축복과 다중정체성 형성으로 가능하며, 또 우리사회의 도처에서 작용하는 이중적 시각극복에 의한 개방적 담론구조형성과 다문화 문해력 향상에 의한 연성사회의 구축으로 접근할 수 있고, 아울러 사회적 포용력 발휘와 사회통합에 토대한 다문화 세계시민 사회구축에서 찾을 수 있다

영어초록

This study deals with the conditions and procedures of the social adaptation that the multicultural immigrants experience in the areas of theirs everyday life, and explores the possibility of multicultural civic society. We are trying to trace the structural types of multicultural phenomenon that they face in their daily life. We explored how they perceive the conditions of their social adaptation by using a focus-group-interview method. The participants of this study were sixteen female marriage immigrants who have lived for 5 years in Korea. According to analysis of the qualitative data, we found these things: in the cultural area, they had experienced a sense of social-cultural differences such as a discrimination and prejudice, in a family life, they were having much difficulties in adapting because of patriarchal customs and ideology of son-preference staying still in our society, in linguistic parts, they were being treated as a cultural stranger including the polarization in the children's education, so they could not be adjusted as the mainstream members of our society. Considering these situations of their adaptation, the establishment of multicultural civic society is emerged as the key challenges of our time. The multicultural civic society is closely linked with a 'celebration of diversity' and the formation of multi-identity based on a cultural pluralism, also is associated with the building of an opened discourse structure and the construction of the soft society by the enhancement of multicultural literacy, finally is closely related to establishing multicultural citizenship by the exercise of social tolerance and the social integration.
