리더십 유형과 분할 뇌 기능에 관한 연구 (The Study on the Leadership Type and the Split-brain Function)

초록

본 연구는 급변하는 기업 환경에 적응하기 위한 대안으로 리더십이론 중 변혁적 리더십과 거래적 리더십을 고찰하였다. 이러한 리더십을 수행하는 리더들의 행동을 지배하는 배경을 이해하기 위해 분할뇌 기능 즉, 좌뇌와 우뇌의 기능을 살펴보았다.
이러한 변혁적 리더십과 거래적 리더십에 좌뇌와 우뇌의 기능을 대비하여 유사성과 동질성을 확인하였다. 그 결과, 거래적 리더십은 좌뇌 기능과 변혁적 리더십은 우뇌기능과 상당히 일치함을 알 수 있었다. 그런데 거래적 리더십과 변혁적 리더십은 상호 독립적이라 기보다는 단일선상의 연속적이라고 할 수 있다. 이는 마치 분할 뇌 이론에서 좌우뇌 기능을 통합한 것과 같은 양뇌형 개념과 일치한다.
다음으로, 급변하는 환경에 적응하기 위한 리더십으로 변혁적 리더십(transformational leadership)의 중요성은 많은 연구들이 입증하고 있다. 그러나 이러한 변혁적 리더십(transformational leadership) 능력을 향상시키기 위한 뇌기능은 우뇌형(right mode)이 요구되는 데, 우리사회의 문화나 교육은 좌뇌 편향성을 띠고 있어, 상대적인 우뇌교육훈련이 요구된다. 이러한 교육을 통해 효율적이고 능률적인 변혁적 리더십을 발휘할 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

This research studies the transformational leadership and the transactional leadership among leadership theories. Theses two leadership types are introduced as the alternative plan to adapt the rapidly changing enterprised environment.
The split-brain function namely - the function of left brain and right brain- is inspected to understand the background which controls the act of the leaders who perform the leadership.
After comparing the brain functions and these two leaderships, this study confirms the similarity and homogeneity between brain function and two leaderships. The result is that as the transactional leadership is in accord with the function of the left brain so the transformational leadership is considerably related with the right brain. However the leadership is not mutually independent, but also unitarity successive. This is matched with the concept of integrated brain mode that is united into the function of left and right brain in the split brain theory.
Hence many researches establish the importance of the transformational leadership as the one to adapt the rapidly changing enterprised environment and the brain function for progressing the ability of the transformational leadership is the right mode. However Korean society and the education have showed an inclination toward to left brain centered until now. Hence it is required to train and educate the right brain to progress the ability of the transformational leadership. The right brain training would help to increase efficient and effective transformational leadership.
