淸陰 金尙憲의 『南槎錄 』소재 기사 오류 및 쟁점 (Error and Issue of Article in Cheong'um Kim Sang-heon's Namsarok(南槎錄))

초록

Namsarok is the book of Cheong'um(淸陰) Kim Sang-heon(金尙憲). Cheong'um came to Jeju(濟州) from Seoul through Haenam(海南), on August 13, 1601(宣祖 34) and he went back to Seoul the following year. Namsarok consists of the form of journal that contains the travel report of Jeju. He read through all kinds of Jeju-related books for the visit of Jeju. This was confirmed in that he quoted various literatures while he was writing Namsarok. Those are Jeju Jiji(地誌), Keum'nam(錦南) Choi Boo(崔溥)'s Pyohaerok(漂海錄), Chung'am(冲庵) Kim Jeong(金淨)'s Jejupoongtorok(濟州風土錄)･Dokeuncheon joongsukweonmoon(都近川 重修勸文)･Jhonjaam joongsuki(尊者庵 重修記), Baek'ho(白湖) Lim Jae(林悌)'s Nammyeongsosung(南溟小乘). Therefore, Namsarok includes not only the writings of Cheong'um but all the Jeju-related materials before that. In other words, Namsarok is the best book for understanding Jeju's real situations in the early 17c.
This paper starts from the question of 'Are there any errors in this precious book?' Each of the items in the book was checked and compared, based on his writings and the literatures he quoted. The possible errors of record, his misunderstandings and mistakes in engraving were checked. Also, the differences between the contents of Namsarok and his quoted-literatures were thoroughly examined. Some parts were summarized and others were originally quoted from the books. In some cases, he explained adding notes when he introduced his point of view.
The result was that differences, errors of record and misunderstandings were found in 19 places. Accordingly, this writer defined these errors and differences as five categories: Names of people, Office and peerage･Government office, Names of places･Areas, Jeju's custom, and Jeju's local products. In addition, this book showed that some parts raised doubts about Cheong'um's argument. Those are followings: The time of establishment of Jeju's salt farm and a founder, the origin of title Ohbaekjangkundong(五百將軍洞) to Youngkok(靈谷), writer of a tablet of Kwanduckjeong(觀德亭), Gyulimdang(橘林堂)'s characteristic among government office buildings in Jeju castle. Further studies should be required to the facts above. Henceforth, those problems should be considered when Jeju's history and culture are studied. Today Namsarok is frequently introduced as Jeju's history and culture are discussed and its importance is getting increased. That's because Namsarok, a voluminous work, penetrates Jeju's overall history and culture. Therefore, this paper puts significance on straightening the possible errors in the book and telling the right historical facts to the future generations.
