초․중․고 음악교육을 위한제주 민요 제재곡 개발 (A Development of Jeju Folk Songs as Song Materials for Music Education in the Elementary, Middle, and High Schools)

초록

민요는 민중들의 삶 가장 가까이에 있는 음악 장르로, 그들의 삶의 모습과 생각이 그대로 투영되어 있어, 단순한 음악을 넘어 민족의 역사이자 문화로서 큰 의미를 갖는다. 때문에, 초, 중, 고교 음악 교육에서 민요는 매우 비중 있게 다뤄지고 있고, 보다 효과적인 학습을 위해 각 지역의 다양한 향토민요가 발굴, 활용되고 있다.
2015 개정 초․중․고 음악교과서의 제주 민요 수록 양상을 살펴보면, 수록 곡 수도 타지역에 비하여 적고, 가장 많은 교과서에 수록되고 있는 <너영나영>, <오돌또기>, <멸치후리는소리>의 경우 제주 향토 민요로서 대표성을 띠기에 다소 부적절하다. 교과서 내 제주 민요에 대한 설명 역시 노랫말에 제주 특유의 방언이 사용된다거나 어업요가 많다는 음악 외적인 설명이 대부분이다. 이에, 제주 민요의 효과적인 교육을 위한 새로운 가창 제재곡이 개발되어야 할 필요성이 절실한 바, 제주 본토의 민요이면서, 제주 전역에서 널리 불려 왔고, 제주의 문화와 제주민의 삶을 잘 보여줄 수 있으며, 제주 특유의 음악 어법을 보유하고 있는 민요인 <애기흥그는소리>, <자진사대소리>, <밭밟는소리>를 새로운 음악 교과 제재곡으로 제안하였다.
<애기흥그는소리>는 제주도민이면 누구나 부르고 들었던 소리로, ‘삼승할망’이나 ‘애기구덕’과 같이 제주의 신앙이나 풍속을 더불어 살펴볼 수 있으며, 가창 제재곡으로 활용하기에 무리 없는 비교적 규칙적인 박자 구조와 단순한 선율로 구성되어 있다. 제주 특유의 도선법으로 이루어져 있는 점이나 각 선율 단락이 고음으로 시작하여 점차 하행하고, 최저음에 머물러 종지하는 선율형을 이루는 점에서도 제주 음악 어법을 설명하기에 적절하다.
<자진사대소리(ᄍᆞ른사대)>는 밭농사를 주로 하는 제주 지역의 농경문화를 잘 보여주며, 제주 전역에 걸쳐 불렸던 밭매는소리로, 제주특별자치도 무형문화재 제16호로 지정되어 있다. 선후창의 가창 방식과 유절형식의 반복되는 선율 구조 및 3소박 4박자의 규칙적인 박자를 가져, 가창 제재곡으로 활용하기에 적절하다.
<밭밟는소리>는 자유리듬 형태이며, 선율도 꾸밈이 많고 복잡하여, 가창 제재곡으로 활용하기에는 적합하지 않으나, 제주도의 자연 환경과 그에 따른 특유의 농사법과 관련된 제주 고유의 민요이며, 제주 전역에서 불렸고, 제주특별자치도 무형문화재로도 지정되어 있다. 음악적으로도 제주 특유의 ‘도선법’으로 선율이 구성되어 있어, 육지의 민요 토리와 구분하여 학습이 가능하므로, 감상 제재곡으로 활용할 수 있다.
민요가 갖는 교육적인 가치를 제대로 실현하기 위해서 적절한 악곡의 선정은 매우 중요하다. 제주 지역은 육지와는 구별된 독특한 문화를 간직하고 있는 만큼, 이를 잘 보여줄 수 있는 다양한 향토민요의 발굴이 그 어느 지역보다 절실하게 요구된다. 본고에서 <애기흥그는소리>, <자진사대소리>, <밭밟는소리> 세 곡의 민요를 새로운 제주 민요 제재곡으로 제시하였으나, 각 학교급 수준에 따른 구체적인 활용 방안으로까지 나가지 못한 한계점을 갖고 있다. 이에 대해서는 추후의 연구과제로 남겨두며, 더 많은 새로운 제재곡들이 개발되어 초․중․고 음악교육에 활용될 수 있기를 바란다.

영어초록

Folk songs are a genre of music closest to the lives of Korean people, reflecting the aspects and thoughts of their lives. Thus, folk songs have a great significance as the nation’s history and culture beyond just music. Because of this, they are treated with great importance in music education of elementary, middle, and high schools, and various local folk songs from each region are being discovered and utilized for more effective learning.
Observing Jeju folk songs listed in the elementary, middle and high school's music textbooks published on the basis of the 2015 revised curriculum, the number of Jeju folk songs listed are less than that of other regions, and <Neoyoung Nayoung>, <Odoltogi>, <Myeolchi hurinun sori> included in the textbooks the most are somewhat inadequate to become a representative of Jeju local folk songs. The description of Jeju folk songs in the textbooks is mostly regarding non-musical content that Jeju-specific dialect is used in the lyrics and there are many fishermen’s songs. Accordingly, the need to develop new vocal music for the effective education of Jeju folk songs is emergent. This study proposed as new vocal pieces for song materials <Aegiheungunun Sori>, <Jajinsadae Sori>, <Batbabnun Sori>, the folk songs that are native songs of Jeju, has been widely sung all over Jeju, can reflect the culture of Jeju and the lives of the Jeju people, and possesses Jeju’s intrinsic music grammar.
<Aegiheungunun Sori> was a song sung and heard by any Jeju people, which one can see Jeju's beliefs or customs along with 'Samseunghalmang' and 'Aegigudeok'. It is composed of a relatively regular rhythm structure and a simple tune that are appropriate to be used as a vocal song for learning materials. As it is composed of Jeju's unique ‘Do-mode,’ and each melodic phrase starts from a high note, gradually descends, and stays on the lowest note for a cadence, the song is adequate to explain Jeju's music grammar.
<Jajinsadae Sori(jjareunsadae)> is the sound of weeding a field that has been sung throughout Jeju, showing Jeju's agricultural culture of dry-field farming. It is designated as the 16th Intangible Cultural Property of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. Due to the call and response singing style, the repeated melodic structure of the strophic form,and the regular rhythm of 4 beats with each beat consisting of 3 sub-beats, it is appropriate for a vocal piece as song materials.
<Batbabnun Sori> has a complicated melody with embellishment in the form of free rhythm thus not being adequate to be used as a vocal song. However, this is a Jeju's native folk song related to Jeju's natural environment and its corresponding farming method, sung by the Jeju people. It is designated as the Intangible Cultural Property of Jeju. As its tune is musically composed of the Jeju distinct mode, 'Do-mode,' and it is possible to learn from the difference of the folk song tori of the continent, it can be used as song materials for music appreciation.
To properly realize the educational value of folk songs, it is very important to select an appropriate piece of music. As Jeju has a unique culture differentiated from the continent, the discovery of various local folk songs that can represent the culture well is more urgent than any other region. The study presented the three folk songs, <Aegiheungunun Sori>, <Jajinsadae Sori>, and <Batbabnun Sori>, as new Jeju folk songs for learning materials, but it has a limitation in that it has not been able to reach to specific application plans for each school level. That will be left for future research projects. It is expected that more new song materials are developed and discovered to be used for music education in elementary, middle, and high schools.
