신자유주의와 탈학교 사회 그리고 한국 ‘생물(生物)여성’ 영성의 교육 (Neo-Liberalism, Deschooling Society and the Education of Korean Feminist all the world-reviving Spirituality)

초록

본 연구는 오늘날의 생태계 위기와 신자유주의 경제난국의 상황을 맞이하여 어떻게 하면 우리 교육의 변혁을 통해서 새로운 대안을 마련할 수 있을까를 탐색한다. 이 일에 있어서 이미 40여 년 전에 서구 자본주의 사회의 무한정한 성장을 향한 인간욕망의 위험성을 목도하고 “성장을 멈추라”고 하면서 “탈학교사회”를 제안한 이반 일리치의 사상을 중요하게 다룰 것이다. 그는 오늘날 우리 모두의 삶에 있어서 가장 기본이 되는 농업, 의료, 수송, 교육, 페미니즘의 문제를 지구와 인간의 자연적 한계성에 맞추어서 다시 사고할 것을 촉구하였다. 본 연구는 이러한 일리치의 사고에 근본적으로 동의하면서 그러나 거기서 더 나아가서 한국 ‘생물(生物)여성 영성’의 교육을 제안하는데, 그것은 특히 한국 유교 전통의 여성들이 가꾸어온 살림의 영성과 유교적 초월성을 귀한 것으로 여긴다. 그러면서 오늘 한국 사회가 겪고 있는 신자유주의 경제 파탄과 거기서의 하수인 역할을 하는 무한경쟁주의와 교육공리주의의 교육에 맞서서 다시 교육에 있어서 종교적이고 초월적인 근거를 회복하고 일상의 삶과 여성주의적 가치, 공적 감각의 교육으로 탈바꿈할 것을 촉구한다.

영어초록

This is a study to find out how we can overcome our overly competition ridden educational trend of today and its materialistic character. It perceives one main cause of current economic turmoil of Korea in our educational praxis. Namely, since Korean people have spent too much money in educating their children, the other parts of Korean economy are suffocated. In this stream, education became more and more expensive, and the boom in private education grew extraordinary.
In this situation, we recognize the good message of Ivan Illich's deschooling society and stopping the economic growth. Although he suggested that idea almost 40years ago, we acknowledge that our present-day situation of education and socio-political economy demands urgently similar changes in their flow. Ivan Illich designated so well the deep relatedness between our industrial consumer-society and education, and he suggested as a fundamental way of overcoming the vice of modern industrialism the deinstitutionalizing of our learning and education.
I, myself, as a Korean feminist educational thinker, like to propose my own idea of the education of the all the world-reviving spirituality(天地生物之道/理) which has three emphasizing points as following:
1. We have to recognize our own interior spiritual power as a transcendental basis of our education. It is our conviction that when we begin our educational efforts from this innate basis, we will not lose ourselves in wandering to accumulate outer informations and outer institutional authorities of education.
2. The second point is to actualize in our educational praxis communal power and women's ordinary life's knowledge and wisdom. Pestalozzi's meaningful phrase "das Leben bildet" can be a good maxim for the education of deschooling society. We are persuaded that traditional Korean women's spirituality of mothering for the whole world can be a excellent example of the all the world-reviving spirituality. We hope that it will help to emancipate our education from exceedingly institutionalized mode of learning and utilitarianism.
3. The third point is education as l'Amor mundi. We realize well that in our modern bourgeois society education became totally reduced to the matter of individual psychology and lost its public dimensions. As Illich has already prophetically criticized, education became a mighty tool of modern consumerism, and through it, it plays a big part of modern ecological crisis. So we strive to resurrect the public and universum-caring aspect of education with the idea of the doctrine of the Mean(中庸) and Hannah Arendt's idea of education as l'amor mundi.
