초록

본 연구는 유사한 문법적 기능을 담당하고 있는 ‘-고’, ‘-아/어서’의 교육 내용을 통사적 의미적으로 나누어 살피고 교육 내용을 범주화하는 것이 목적이다. 한국어 연결어미는 그 종류가 다양할 뿐만 아니라 개별 연결어미의 의미적ㆍ통사적 기능 또한 하나로 고정되어 있지 않아서, 쓰이는 문맥에 따라 다양한 특성을 보이기 때문에 한국어교육 연구에서는 문법 연구에서 중요한 연구 대상이 되어 왔다. 한국어교육에서 중요한 교육 문법 요소인 연결어미는 연결어미가 가지고 있는 특성으로 인하여 하나의 형태를 가진 연결어미가 선행절과 후행절의 관계에 따라 다양한 문맥적 의미로 해석되거나 별개의 형태를 가진 어미들이 문맥 속에서 유사한 통사적 또는 의미적 기능을 가지는 경우가 많다. 그런데 별개의 형태를 가진 두 어미가 유사한 기능을 가지는 경우, 일반적으로 대치될 가능성이 매우 높다고 생각하기 쉬우나 실제로 두 어미를 대치했을 때는 의미상의 미묘한 변화가 생기는 것은 물론이고 통사적으로는 비문이 되거나 교육적으로는 학습자의 언어 사용 오류가 생기는 경우가 많다. 그러므로 이들의 의미적ㆍ통사적 특성을 제대로 알고, 변별 기준을 설정하고 이를 통해 사용상의 명확한 차이를 교육 내용에 반영하여, 실제 사용에 있어 오류를 없애야 할 필요성이 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 ‘-고’와 ‘-아/어서’이 선행절과 후행절의 관계에 따라 어떤 통사ㆍ의미적 특성을 보이는지를 고찰하고자 한다. 결론적으로 이들 어미의 차이를 살펴 ‘-고’와 ‘-아/어서’의 교육 내용을 비교 정리하고 범주화하고자 한다.

영어초록

In the Korean language, there are various types of conjunctional endings. These endings are not fixed with one semantic and syntactic function and show various characteristics through their use in context. Therefore, these endings have been a major subject of attention in the field of Korean grammar study. Because of these characteristics of conjunctional endings, a conjunctional ending with one form has been interpreted in various contextual definitions in accordance with its relationship with antecedents or following clauses. In most cases, the endings of words with different forms share similar semantic functions in context. However, when two endings of words with different forms share similar semantic functions, it is easy to think there is a high possibility of substituting them, but this can actually cause a subtle change in definition and even make the sentence seem ill-formed or lead to meaning changes. Therefore, to achieve substitution, one must correctly understand the semantic and syntactic characteristics, establish the distinction standard, and confirm specific differences in usage to correct errors in actual use. Despite the educational significance of this topic, there are not many studies that examine the combinations or characteristics of the semantic and syntactic differences of -고” and “-아/어서” by focusing on educational methods or contents in actual conjunctive sentence studies. In particular, understanding what kind of change occurs in semantic and syntactic aspects when the contents of the antecedent clause are closely related to the situation in the conjunctive sentence is essential in defining the characteristics of the conjunctive sentence, but not many studies have paid attention to this topic. Therefore, this study aims to investigate which semantic and syntactic characteristics “-고” and “-아/어서” show in accordance with their relationship with the antecedent and following clause. This study also explores the differences between the endings of words to organize the semantic and syntactic educational contents of “-고” and “-아/어서”.
