가톨릭계 대학의 교육이념 특성에 대한 학생 경험과 인식 (Student Experiences and Perceptions according to the Characteristics of the Educational Philosophy of Catholic Universities)

초록

목적 본 연구는 가톨릭계 대학의 교육이념 특성에 대한 학생들의 경험과 인식을 조사하여, 가톨릭계 대학에서의 교육이념 수행 현황을 파악하고자 하였다.
방법 가톨릭대학교와 대구가톨릭대학교 재학생 1,265명을 대상으로 온라인 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 무작위 표본 추출 방식을활용하였다. 설문은 총 8개 영역으로 구성되었으며, 응답자의 인구통계학적 특성, 가톨릭 교육이념 및 특성 인식, 교양 및 전공 교과에서의 가톨릭 가치 경험, 교내외 활동 경험, 대학 분위기에 대한 인식, 입학 후 가치관 변화, 가톨릭계 대학으로서의 가치 구현 방안, 교육 만족도 등을 포함하였다.
결과 학생들은 가톨릭계 대학에서 ‘구성원의 종교적 자유 보장’과 ‘가톨릭 가치 지향성’을 긍정적으로 경험하고 인식하였다. 대다수의 학생들은 교양 수업을 통해 가톨릭적 가치를 배울 기회를 가졌으며, ‘가톨릭 성격의 교내 행사 참여’를 통해 가톨릭 대학으로서의정체성을 경험하였다. 또한, 대학의 가톨릭적 분위기에 대해 ‘교수들의 학생 존중과 배려’, ‘타 종교에 대한 개방적 태도’, ‘학생 지원제도’, ‘대학 건물 및 조형물의 종교적 특성’에서 긍정적인 평가를 받았다. 가치 구현 방안으로는 ‘가톨릭 특성을 반영한 교양 교과목개설’, ‘비교과 프로그램 개발’, ‘대학의 상징물 개발’ 등이 우선적으로 선택되었다.
결론 가톨릭계 대학은 교육, 연구, 봉사, 교목, 행정 전반에서 학생들이 가톨릭 정체성을 경험하고 인식할 수 있도록 노력하고 있다.
이러한 노력은 가톨릭계 대학이 추구해야 하는 본연의 목표이자, 그 소명을 실현하기 위한 중요한 과정이라 할 수 있다.

영어초록

Objectives The purposes of this study were to understand the current status of the implementation of the educa tional ideology characteristics at Catholic universities by investigating student experiences and perceptions of the characteristics of the educational ideology at Catholic universities.
Methods For this purpose, a survey was conducted by randomly sampling students at Catholic University of Korea and Daegu Catholic University using an online Google form, and a total of 1,265 people responded. The composi tion questions included the respondent's demographic characteristics, awareness of the educational philosophy and characteristics of Catholic universities, experience with Catholic characteristics and values in liberal arts and major subjects except for basic essentials, experience in on- and off-campus activities, perception of university atmosphere, and Catholic affiliation. The survey was conducted in a total of eight areas, including awareness of changes after entering university, priority consideration for implementing the values and characteristics of a Catholic university, and overall satisfaction with education at a Catholic university.
Results It appears that students experienced and highly recognized the educational ideologies of ‘guaranteeing religious freedom of members’ and ‘Catholic value orientation’ at Catholic universities, and the majority of stu dents had ‘opportunities to learn through liberal arts classes’. It was found that students experienced their identity as a Catholic university through ‘participation in Catholic events on campus.’ In addition, in the Catholic atmos phere of the university, ‘professors’ respect and consideration for students', ‘open attitude toward other religions’, ‘student support (personal, psychological, economic, religious) system’, and ‘religious characteristics of uni versity buildings and sculptures’ Students experienced and recognized the Catholic atmosphere. Regarding ways to realize the values of Catholic universities, students said, ‘Establishment of liberal arts courses that reflect the value characteristics of Catholic universities,’ ‘Establishment of non-curriculum subjects that reflect the value characteristics of Catholic universities,’ ‘Development of university architecture, sculptures, monuments, logos, and mascots,’ etc. was selected as priority.
Conclusions Catholic universities allow students to experience and recognize their Catholic identity through edu cation, research, service, chaplaincy, administration, organization, and systems, and to demonstrate the ex cellence, effectiveness, and value of existence as a Catholic university. Trying hard. This is the original goal that Catholic universities should pursue, and it is the calling that Catholic universities should pursue.
