黃景源의 시에 나타난 對明義理의 양상과 성격 (A Study on the Patterns and Nature of Loyalty to the Ming Dynasty in the Poetry of Hwang Gyeong-won)

초록

본고는 영조조의 문풍을 이끌어간 문장가이자, 보수적 흐름을 주도한 노론 낙론계의 대표적 인사인 황경원의 시 작품을 통해 이 시기 집권층의 중심 이념이면서 황경원 삶의 중요 가치였던 대명의리의 문제를 고찰하였다.
문장가로 조명된 황경원에게 있어서 시는 문에 비해 문학적 성취가 덜한 것으로 평가를 받아왔다. 그것은 그의 시가 시상이나 표현, 형상화의 문제에 집중하기 보다 평소 고수하고 있었던 신념과 그에 대한 정서적 지향을 표출하는 수단으로 활용되었던 탓이 크다. 특히 그는 대명의리의 문제에 천착하면서 유람을 하거나 관직 생활 중의 여유, 풍류를 읊은 서정 서경시 가운데서도 이념적 색채를 드러냈다. 명나라에 대해 공부를 하다가 느낀 점을 시로 읊었고 명나라 장수들의 활약상을 읊었으며, 구원병을 파견하도록 결정을 내린 신종과 의종의 공덕을 높이 기렸다. 이들 시를 관통하는 일관된 정서는 청나라에 대한 강한 적개심과 역사적 치욕에 대한 울분, 그리고 명나라에 대한 한없는 고마움이다.
무엇보다 황경원은 병자호란 당시 구원병을 보내어 조선을 돕고자 했으나 성과를 내지 못한 명나라 마지막 황제 의종에 대한 집요한 추숭을 통해 대명의리의 문제가 일의 결과나 현실적 조건에 있기 보다 정신적인 것이고 원칙적인 것이라는 인식을 표출하였다. 그리고 무도한 왜나 청나라에 대한 토벌이 이루어지지 못하고 외려 안정화되어가는 추세에 크게 분개하면서 의리 문제가 단지 관념에 그치는 것이 아니라 실천지향적이어야 함을 보여주었다.
대명의리에 대한 이와 같은 생각은 長詩 또는 聯詩의 형태로 표출되었다. 장시를 통해서는 서사적 구성과 함께 사연을 최대한 자세하고 핍진하게 부각시켰고, 단일한 대상을 가지고 여러 편의 시를 짓는 연시의 방식을 활용하여 주제와 감정을 반복 심화시켰다. 그러나 대의가 널리 선양되지 못하고 토죄가 실현되지 못하는 현실은 원색적인 표현과 격한 감정으로 노출되었으니 시 전편을 관통하는 비분강개한 정서는 확고한 신념과 신념을 지킬 수 없게 된 현실의 간격이 만들어낸 것이었다.
황경원의 문집 속에서 시는 47세를 전후하여 끊긴다. 그러나 이후 그의 삶에서 대명의리는 文을 통해 더욱 적극적으로 표출되고 작품 세계 중심에 핵심적 주제 의식으로 자리하게 된다. 생각과 행동, 학문과 문장 모든 면에서 원칙을 추구하였고, 시세에 따른 변통을 허용하지 않는 삶을 살았던 황경원에게서 대명의리는 급변하는 정세 속에서 의미가 퇴색된 유교국가로서의 자존심을 세우고 유자로서 사명감을 다하기 위한 간절한 노력이었고, 詩는 이러한 신념이 공고화되는 과정을 잘 보여주는 자료라고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

This study set out to investigate Loyalty to the Ming Dynasty, the central ideology of the ruling class during the reign of King Yeongjo and one of the important life values of Hwang Gyeong-won, by looking into the poetic works of Hwang Gyeong-won, who was a writer that led the literary style during the years and one of the representative members of Noron Nakron Circles that led the conservative flow.
The poetic works of Hwang as a writer have been assessed to have fewer literary achievements than his prose works primarily because he used poetry as a means of expressing his beliefs and emotional orientations rather than focusing on such matters as poetical ideas, expressions and embodiment. He particularly revealed his ideological colors in his lyric poems and poems describing scenery he wrote to depict his travel, leisure during his office life, and taste while inquiring into the issue of Loyalty to the Ming Dynasty. He wrote poems to convey what he felt while studying Ming Dynasty, described the actions of Ming generals and highly praised the merits of Shinjong and Uijong that decided to dispatch rescue soldiers in his poems. The common sentiments throughout his poems were his strong antagonism against Qing Dynasty, resentment against the nation's historical disgrace, and limitless gratitude for Ming Dynasty.
Most of all, he argued that the matter of Loyalty to the Ming Dynasty was about spirit and principle rather than results or realistic conditions through his persistent worship and respect for Uijong, the last emperor of Ming Dynasty, who tried to help Joseon by sending rescue soldiers during Byeongjahoran but failed to achieve results. He also showed that the matter of Uiri should be oriented toward practice instead of remaining at the level of idea, furiously resenting the trend of stabilization opposite to the subjugation of reckless Japan and Qing.
His ideas about Loyalty to the Ming Dynasty were expressed in the form of long or series poem. Through long poems, he highlighted the narrative organization and full stories with the utmost details and realism. He repeated and reinforced topics and emotions through series poems on the same objects. The reality of noble causes not being promoted broadly and crimes not being punished, however, made him use radical expressions and reveal his intense emotions. His sorrowful indignation penetrating his entire poems was the result of the gap between his firm beliefs and the reality in which he could not stand by his beliefs.
He stopped writing poetry around at the age of 47 in his anthologies, but the matter of Loyalty to the Ming Dynasty became further reinforced and expressed more actively in the form of prose in his life. Daemyeong Uiri represented his desperate efforts to raise the pride of the nation as a Confucian country whose meanings deteriorated in the rapidly changing situations and fulfill his sense of mission as a Confucian scholar to him, who sought after principles in every aspect of thought, action, science, and literature and allowed for no shifts according to the trends of the age.
