이세이 미야케의 패션소재 유형에 따른 시각적 특성 연구 (A Study on Visual Characteristics Found in Issey Miyake’s Fashion Material Types)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 일본의 전통적 미의식을 기반으로독창적인 패션 철학을 지속적으로 선보이고 있는 소재의 건축가 이세이 미야케의 패션 사례를 분석하여, 소재의 유형에 따른 시각적 특성을 조형적으로 밝히는데있다. 연구 방법으로는 국내외 단행본과 저널 등의 자료를 통한 문헌 연구와 패션 관련 인터넷 사이트, 패션 컬렉션, 패션 서적에서 추출한 시각적 자료를 중심으로 사례 연구를 병행하였다. 연구의 범위는 이세이미야케를 대표하는 소재인 플리츠를 선보이기 시작한1989년부터 현재까지를 기준으로 분석하였다. 연구 내용은 첫째, 이세이 미야케의 사상과 패션에 대해 설명하였다. 둘째, 이세이 미야케 패션 소재의 유형을 에이폭, 오리가미 방식, 데코메트릭, 드레이프 형식으로 분류하여 그 특성을 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과, 현대패션에 나타난 이세이 미야케 패션 소재의 시각적 특성은 선의 재구성, 유동적인 변형, 입체적 텍스처, 공간의 확장으로 나타났다. 첫째, 선의 재구성은 선의 반복과 중첩의 리드미컬한 움직임이 만들어내는 입체적인 형태, 역동적인 패턴, 색상 대비를 이용해 시각적효과를 극대화 시켰다. 둘째, 유동적인 변형은 소재의가변성과 인체의 움직임에 의해 형태가 자유자재로 변형 및 확장되어지는 새로운 조형성을 구축하였다. 셋째, 입체적 텍스처는 텍스처의 변형을 이용한 소재 표면의 풍부한 질감 표현으로 독특한 표면 효과를 접목해 소재의 독창성을 추구하였다. 넷째, 공간의 확장은소재 자체에 공간성을 부여한 형태로 기존의 의복 구성의 경계를 허물어 공간의 범위를 확장시켰다. 이상의 분석 결과는 이세이 미야케의 패션 디자인 자체에초점을 맞춘 기존의 선행 연구와는 달리 이세이 미야케의 소재의 시각적 특성을 조형적 관점에서 연구함으로써, 그 가치를 인식하고 향후 소재 개발 및 창작 영역 확대를 위한 이론적 자료로 활용 될 수 있는 이론적 근거를 마련하고자 한다. 또한 이러한 이세이 미야케의 패션 소재에 관한 분석은 패션에 있어 예술적 표현의 유기적인 관계에 관한 고찰에 기여하는 것으로창의적인 소재 개발의 응용 가능성과 비전을 마련하는시각을 제공 할 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the examples of fashion created by Issey Miyake, an architect of materials, continuously revealing his original philosophy of fashion based on Japan’s traditional aesthetic sense and find out the visual characteristics of different material types formatively. As a study method, this author conducted case study accompanied by reviewing literatures including Korean and foreign books or journals and examining visual materials extracted from fashion-related internet websites, fashion collections, and fashion books. The scope of this analysis covers Issey Miyake’s works from 1989 when he introduced his representative pleats works up until now. Concerning study contents, first, this study explains Issey Miyake’s ideas and his fashion. Second, this author classifies Issey Miyake’s fashion material types into A-POC, the origami type, decometric, and the drape type and analyzes each of their characteristics.
According to the results, visual characteristics found in Issey Miyake’s fashion materials in terms of contemporary fashion include lines’ reorganization, flexible transformation, solid texture, and space extension. First, lines’ reorganization is shown as new solid forms and dynamic patterns with the free alterations of lines, and lines’ overlapping and repetition maximize rhythmical movement and visual effect.
Second, with flexible transformation, materials’ variability and the human body’s movement lead to the free transformation and extension of forms, and this constant change realizes the expression of new formative beauty. Third, about solid texture, he integrates the unique surface effect with the rich texture expression of material surfaces using texture transformation to pursue the originality of materials.
Fourth, concerning space extension, expressing forms adding space to a material itself, he tears down the borders of existing costume designs and extends the range of space. Based on the above analysis results gained by examining the visual characteristics of Issey Miyake’s materials formatively unlike advanced research focusing on his fashion design itself, this author intends to lay theoretical grounds to recognize the value and apply the results as theoretical data to develop materials and extend the areas of creation afterwards.
Moreover, this analysis on Issey Miyake’s fashion materials does contribute to considering organic relationship between artistic expressions in fashion therefore, it will be able to provide the perspective of establishing applicability and vision to develop creative materials.
