한국 지역 슬로건의 시각적 상징성 연구 - 픽토그래피 슬로건에 대한 수사학적, 기호학적 분석을 중심으로 - (A Study of the Visual Symbols on the Slogans for Korean Regions - Rhetoric and Semiotic Analysis of Pictographic Slogans -)

초록

본 연구는 지역브랜딩 차원에서 지역브랜드 슬로건이나 상징의 개발과 확산이 특징적 현상의 하나가 된 한국 지역의 현황에 주목하였다.
따라서 본 연구에서는 한국의 84개 지역 슬로건에 대한 시각적 상징성의 현황을 파악하는데 집중하면서 특히 픽토그래피의 형태적 특성을 드러내는 사례를 수사학적, 기호학적으로 분석하여 슬로건의 의미 생성 과정을 제시하고자 하였다.
본 연구는 다음과 같은 세 가지 차원의 분석을 통해 흥미로운 연구결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 지자체 슬로건의 형태 및 구성에 대한 분석을 통해 영어표기의 일반화 등의 특성을 추출할 수 있었으며, 둘째, 지역 슬로건에 대한 시각적 수사 연구를 통해 통사적, 의미적, 논리적 차원의 상징성을 밝혀낼 수 있었으며, 마지막으로 픽토그래피 형식 슬로건의 기호학적 분석을 통해서는 주체의 도상화, 지리,문화적 환경의 도상화, 슬로건 의미의 도상화라는 심층적 상징성을 찾아낼 수 있었다. 또한, 이러한 과정에서 우리는 픽토그래피 형식의 슬로건이 지역의 지리적, 환경적 정체성은 물론 지역 슬로건 의미, 그리고 사람을 중심으로 하는 지역의 모토 등을 담아내려고 의도되어졌음을 파악할 수 있었다.
이러한 시도를 통해 우리는 수사학적 분석과 기호학적 분석의 결과가 복잡한 텍스트인 지역의 슬로건 어휘를 고안함은 물론이고, 슬로건을 구성하는 조형적, 도상적 기호들을 구상하고 배치하는데 방향성을 제시할 수 있기를 기대하였다.

영어초록

These days, it is in the domain of regional branding that the creation of the region brand and the symbol is most developed in the Korean regions. The purpose of this study is to explore how 84 Korean regional governments influence the people's interpretation of regional representations by the visual symbols in the slogans visualized. In particular, we examined pictographic slogans, since pictographic slogans can convey any illustrative or typographical values for regional branding.
Our interest includes the domain of rhetorics and semiotics, which examines the subject from an iconic and plastic perspective of the slogan that is visualized. In this study, semiotic and rhetorical tools are used for defining and analyzing regional brand identity by using regional symbolic images and identical images which are familiar to the public.
This study concentrates on the rhetorical significance of visual slogans from formal and structural dimensions to rhetorical dimensions and semiotic dimensions, in order to understand their communication strategy through the slogan culture of the Korean regions. In this context, this study could find that the use of different typographical font styles helps to draw attention to and gives inspiration about the identity of regions, local geographical characteristics of regions, and the regional model of humans oriented through the shape of the pictography.
In the results, this study found that many Korean regional governments should be looking for ways to promote their unique identity and character through diverse visual rhetoric slogans. Therefore, we argue that these rhetorical figure analyses can be expected to have two primary perceptions: the conceptualization of a slogan phrase and the creation of visual elements of slogans visualized for the Korean regions.
