초록

이 논문은 20세기 이래 지하에서 출토된 텍스트와 현재 통행되고 있는 텍스트를 비교 고찰하는 방법으로, 주역 육십사괘의 괘효사가 선진시대에서 한대를 거쳐 현행본에 이르는 동안 어떻게 형성되고 전개되어 왔는지 蹇卦를 중심으로 고찰한 것이다. 출토본 주역 중 가장 오래된 것은 상박본인데, 이것은 전국시대 古文의 하나인 楚나라 문자로 서사되어 있다. 그런 의미에서 이것은 고문 『주역』이라고 할 수 있다. 그에 비해 마왕퇴본과 부양본 및 희평석경본은 한대 예서체로 서사된 텍스트이다. 그런 의미에서 이것은 今文 주역이라고 할 수 있다. 현행본은 이러한 금고문 계통의 텍스트를 중층적으로 계승하고 있다. 이렇게 보면 이들 텍스트에 대한 비교 연구는 마치 그 옛날 한대에 발생한 금고문논쟁을 방불케 한다. 실제로 蹇卦 괘효사를 비교해 보면 내용상 근본적인 차이를 보이는 부분이 있다. ‘蹇’은 다리를 절뚝거리는 것을 의미하는데, 주역에서는 여기에서 파생되어 고생이나 어려움을 의미하는 말로 쓰이고 있다. ‘蹇’이라는 글자는 이와 같이 부정적인 의미를 지니고 있지만, 蹇卦 괘효사에서는 밖으로 나가 적극적으로 활동할 때는 어려움을 겪지만 돌아올 때는 그와 반대로 명예를 얻거나 부귀한 신분이 되거나 큰 인물이 된다는 긍정적인 내용으로 되어 있다. 그런 의미에서 이 괘는 ‘반전’을 상징하고 있다고 할 수 있다. 그런데 각 텍스트의 원문을 비교해 보면 두 군데에 큰 차이가 있다. 하나는 六二 효사이고 또 하나는 九五 효사이다. 글자상의 차이라는 측면에서 보면, 전자의 경우는 상박본과 마왕퇴본이 ‘今’으로 쓰는 것을 희평석경과 현행본은 ‘躬’으로 쓴다. 후자의 경우는 상박본이 ‘不’로 쓰는 것을 마왕퇴본‧희평석경‧현행본은 ‘朋’으로 쓴다. 이것을 다시 내용상의 차이라는 측면에서 보면, 전자의 경우는 ‘今’이 ‘躬’으로 바뀜으로서 신하 개인의 어려움과 극복이라는 사적 관심에서, 신하가 왕이나 왕실을 위하여 일신을 희생해야 한다는 공적 관심으로 내용이 근본적으로 바뀌고 있다. 후자의 경우는 ‘不’이 ‘朋’으로 바뀜으로서 절망적이고 비극적인 결말에서 희망적이고 긍정적인 결말로 내용이 완전히 바뀌고 있다. 주역 蹇卦 내에서 이러한 근본적인 변화가 발생한 데에는 여러 가지 원인이 있겠지만, 내용의 일관성을 추구하려는 움직임이나 주역의 경전화 과정 및 한대 이래 유교가 국가 지배 이데올로기로서의 지위와 역할을 공고히 해 나가는 과정과 관련이 있을 것으로 추측된다.

영어초록

This thesis is a method to inquire into and compare the text excavated from underground since the twentieth century with the current text, which is intended to consider in the center of hexagram Jian (蹇) how 64 hexagram and line statements in Zhouyi (周易) was formed and developed through from Pre-Qin dynasty and Han dynasty to the current text. Of excavated text Zhouyis, the oldest is Shangbo Zhouyi (上博本: the Chu bamboo slips Zhouyi collected by Shanghai museum), which is narrated in Chu (楚) dynasty character, one of the classical chinese in ‘warring states’ period. That is to say, it is referred to as the classical chinese Zhouyi. Compared with it, Mawangdui Zhouyi (馬王堆本: the Silk Manuscript Zhouyi excavated at Mawangdui), Fuyang Zhouyi (阜陽本: the Han bamboo slips Zhouyi excavated at Fuyang) and Xiping Shijing Zhouyi (熹平石經: the stone classics in the 4th year of Emperor Xiping's reign during the Han Dynasty) are texts written in Lishu (隸書: clerical scripts). From that point of view, this is referred to as the common character of Han dynasty Zhouyi. The current text had multi-levered succeeded to the texts of the common character system in Han dynasty. From this, the comparative study for these text reminds us of the debate the common character of Han dynasty which occurred in the ancient Han dynasty. In reality, comparing hexagram and line statements of Jian, there are some parts which reveal fundamental difference from contents. Jian means limping in leg, which was derived from this and has been used as the comment, hardship or difficulties. Though Jian has a negative meaning like this, it is composed of a positive content that from hexagram and line statements of Jian, one has a great difficulty in energetic activities going outside, but comes back, having a reputation or becoming a wealthy status or a leading figure on the contrary. In such a meaning, this hexagram can be symbolized as ‘reversal’. By the way, comparing the original of each text, there are two big differences. One is six in the second (六二), while the other is nine in the fifth (九五). From the point of literal differences, as for the former, it is written in Jin (今) in Shangbo Zhouyi and Mawangdui Zhouyi whereas it is written in Gong (躬) in Xiping Shijing and the current text. As for the latter, it is written in Bu (不) in Shangbo Zhouyi, whereas it is written in Peng (朋) in Mawangdui Zhouyi, Xiping Shijing and the current text. When this is seen from the point of content difference, the former is changed into Gong from Jin, which means that the content is basically changed from the private interest of the individualistic vassal’s adversity and one’s overcome, to the public interest of his sacrifice for the king or royal family. In case of the latter, its content is completely changed from hopeless and tragic ending to hopeful and positive one by being changed into Peng from Bu. Though there are several causes why this kind of fundamental change occurred within hexagram Jian of Zhouyi, it is guessed that they had something to do with the process to strengthen the national status and role as ruling ideology of confucianism since Han dynasty as well as the movement to pursue the consistency of content or canonification in Zhouyi.
