보상형 크라우드 펀딩에서의 사회적 증거와 마감까지의 시간적 거리가 투자의도에 미치는 영향: 달성가능성의 매개효과를 중심으로 (The Effect of Social Proof and Temporal Distance to Deadline on Investment Intention in Platform of Compensatory Crowdfunding: The Mediation Effect of Goal Attainability)

초록

크라우드 펀딩의 참가자수, 모금액, 달성률, 기간과 같은 지표는 투자자들이 크라우드 펀딩을 평가하는데 가장기초적인 자료로 활용된다. 크라우드 펀딩에 대한 선행연구에서는 크라우드 펀딩과 다른 플랫폼과의 차이점을 밝히고 목표기울기효과를 중심으로 많은 연구가 이루어졌다. 그러나 보상형 크라우드 펀딩이 기업의 새로운 자금조달의 창구로 크게 성장하는 것과 달리 크라우드 펀딩의 참가자수, 모금액, 달성률, 기간과 같은 지표가 투자자들에게 어떻게 인지되고 투자에 영향을 미치는지에 대한 연구는 미비하다. 따라서 본 연구는 크라우드펀딩의 사회적 증거(강함 vs. 약함)와 마감까지의 시간적 거리(멈 vs. 가까움)가 투자의도에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다.
연구1에서는 선행연구와 같이 강한 사회적 증거가 투자의도에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는지 확인하였다. 또한, 사회적 증거와 투자의도의 관계에서 마감까지의 시간적 거리의 조절효과를 검정하였다. 분석결과, 투자자들은 크라우드 펀딩의 참가자 수를 사회적 증거로 느끼며 사회적 증거가 투자의도에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 사회적 증거가 약한 경우에는 마감까지의 시간적 거리가 가까울 때보다 멀 때 크라우드 펀딩의 투자의도가 증가함을 확인하였다. 연구2에서는 달성가능성의 매개효과를 검증하였다. 분석결과, 사회적 증거와 마감까지의 시간적 거리는 달성가능성에 유의미한 영향을 미치며 투자의도와의 관계에 유의미한 매개효과가 있음을 확인하였다.
본 연구를 통해 사회적 증거가 약한 경우에도 투자자가 마감까지의 시간적 거리가 멀다고 느낄 때 투자의도를증가시킬 수 있음을 확인하였으며 성공적인 크라우드 펀딩에 투자자들에게 펀딩의 달성가능성을 높게 지각시키는 것의 중요함을 제시하였다.

영어초록

Potential investors evaluate crowdfunding based on the number of participants, fundraising amount, achievement rate, and period of crowdfunding. Prior studies documented the differentiation of crowdfunding and another platform and focused on the goal gradient effect. Compensatory crowdfunding grows fastly as a novel method of firms’ financing. However, how the number of participants, fundraising amount, achievement rate, and funding period affect potential investors’ decision-making remains puzzling. This study investigates the effect of the social proof (strong vs. weak) and the temporal distance to crowdfunding deadline (near vs. far) on investment intention. In experiment 1, we examined the positive effect of the strong social proof on investment intention in line with prior research.
Moreover, experiment 1 confirmed that in the condition of weak social proof, the more further temporal distance to the deadline, the higher investment intention based on the optimism tendency. The empirical results show that investors regard the number of participants in crowdfunding as social proof, which finally positively affects investment intention. In the condition of weak social proof, the further(vs. near) temporal distance to the crowdfunding deadline, the higher intention of investing in crowdfunding. In experiment 2, we investigated the mediation effect of goal attainability. The empirical results show that social proof and temporal distance to crowdfunding deadline were significantly affected achievement probability, and the goal attainability mediates the relationship between social proof and temporal distance to crowdfunding deadline, and investment intention, respectively. In addition, this study confirmed that the temporal distance to the crowdfuning deadline moderated the mediation effect of social proof on the interrelationship between social proof and investment intention. This study provided the final section’s general discussion, implication, limitations, and further research.
