    초록

    The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of makeup on the emotional shifts of elderly women, as they are expected to have a greater presence about themselves and build a better interpersonal relationship with others without feeling alienated or depressed no longer when they put on makeup. The subjects in this study were 238 elderly female residents in Seoul who were in their 60 s and up.
    After a survey was conducted, the following findings were given: As for mood after putting on full makeup, they felt better after putting on makeup when they were in a worse mood before that. In terms of demographic characteristics, the women who had more money to spend and who engaged in any social activity as a hobby were in a better mood after putting on makeup. In regard to post-makeup psychological stability, they felt more stable psychologically after putting on makeup when they felt more unstable before that. In terms of demographic characteristics, the women who had more spending money and who engaged in any social activity as a hobby felt more stable after they putting on makeup. Concerning interpersonal initiative, pre-makeup interpersonal initiative exerted no significant influence on post-makeup interpersonal initiative. Among demographic characteristics, the women who had more money to spend and who had spouses became more active in terms of interpersonal relationship after they put on makeup. Pre-makeup confidence about living exercised no significant influence on post-makeup confidence about living. Regarding demographic characteristics, they had more confidence about living after putting on makeup when they had more spending money, when they had spouses, when their self-esteem was higher and when they were in a worse relationship with others.
