In 1493 October 21, Christopher Columbus arrives in the Americas. Columbus Day is a holiday celebrating the anniversary of Christopher Columbus`s arrival in the Americas.
In the text book, Columbus is mentioned as a great guy who discovered the continental of America. However, Christopher Columbus was not a great guy when people get to know what he had done during his life time, they would say the text book is wrong.
He was born between August 25th and October 31st, 1435 to 1460. 1451 is the most frequently given date. His birthplace is Genoa, Italy. He was a Catholic and Jewish background on one side of his family. Many People know Christopher Columbus as a great sailor who discovered American continentals. Columbus not only sailed the Ocean Sea, he sailed between the medieval and the modern consciousness. In place of a globe, the Middle Ages had a flat map, depicting a world-island consisting of Europe, Africa, and Asia. It was complete and static. Ocean was supposed to cover everything else (Hart). However, it is not true that he meant to find the new world. Finding a new world was not on purpose but more likely to be an accident while he was looking for India. In the truth of Columbus’s reputations, Christopher Columbus was a cruel and harsh Italian since he treated the Native American as sex slaves and takes away their properties.
