    In the last decade, social media platforms have been credited for increasing the civic engagement of citizens globally, and in the process facilitating greater level of activism (Zheng, 2016). Current evidence suggests that more people are using social media tools in civic or political engagement. In some societies today, like in the case of Chinese society where media censorship is customary, access to social media platforms are fast becoming a significant resource for ensuring successful social movement. While the exact number of people using social media for purposes of digital activist is imprecise, more than 674 million people in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, as a whole are social media users.
