This experiment explores the concepts surrounding viscous flow. The objective of the experiment is to determine the relative roughness of the pipe in question and determine the corrected diameter for this pipe. The data shows that the experimental diameter is not the actual diameter of the pipe; in fact the diameter of the pipe is actually smaller than the given diameter. The pipe diameter is believed to be decreased as a result of long term use and a buildup of corrosion within the pipe. This experiment also studies the effect of relative roughness on the fluid flow. The data within shows that the expected relative roughness and the calculated relative roughness are very different; this also is believed to be an effect of the corrosion within the pipe.
Introduction
The objective of this experiment is to revisit and clarify the concept of fluid flow in pipes, and more specifically viscous flow.
