Last Sept.11, acts of the most unimaginable terrorism took place in New York. The astonishing terrorists struck the two symbols of American power, the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon. The attacks claimed thousands of lives and led the United States to launch military strikes on Afghanistan. Though terrorism is a worthy of contempt, Sept. 11 presented America with tremendous opportunities to reexamine its foolish foreign policy. America must not only examine the causes of the terror but also learn from it. Moreover, America has to recognize that anti-American sentiments have risen in the world. Why do terrorists dislike the U.S. and why did they attack the U.S.? The answer to the question can be categorized into political, military and cultural reasons. The first reason for the terror is America’s “double standard” foreign policy: the intervention in the Middle East and the support for Israel. The U.S. has had a double standard in dealing with the Middle East. Israel has been the single most important ally of the U.S. in the Middle East.
