Water Crisis in California
Human could alive three weeks without eating food, but could live no longer than three days without drinking water. Water may be the one of the most essential factors needed for maintaining our lives as human beings. Since water is always around us, however, we do not realize the importance of water. We just take water for granted. Due to such ungrateful thinking, human finally causes the serious problem that is called ‘water crisis’. Water crisis is a general term used to describe a situation where the available water within a region is less than the region`s demand.
California is one of the regions in which suffers water crisis. There are several reasons why California faces water crisis; high population growth, periodic drought, climate change, and government regulations and recent court rulings that restrict pumping of water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. In this paper, I am going to focus on institutional factors (e.g. Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta case) that are regulated and controlled by government rather than natural factors such as drought and climate change.
