London is a poem by William Blake, published in Songs of Experience in 1794. I will analyze this poem based on its poet, his background, or the times in which he lived rather than the poem itself because the period was published during the upheavals of the French Revolution, and the city of London was suffering political and social unrest.
I will analyze this poem’s form. First, this poem takes a type of lyrical poetry. Lyrical poem is a poem in which the poet writes about his or her thoughts and feelings. Also, it covers all poems that present the poet’s immediate response to life. Lyric poems can deal with any facet of experience, such as love, death, nature or religion, or some domestic, social, or political issue. If you read the poem ‘London’ and understand that William Blake wants to express his thoughts or feelings by describing citizens in London as the people who are repressed, you will realize that ‘London’ is a lyrical poem.
