In the era of global competition and rapid turnover of innovation, the importance of understanding and ‘managing’ organisational culture is being high-lighted than ever before. Various types of organisations are now paying more attention to its culture; such as corporations trying to establish their motto or slogan to encourage their employees. Without exception, Universities, which are among the most important institutions of a nation and which perform as ‘knowledge plant’, are especially subject to refinement of its culture.For managing an organisation’s culture, the first step of action is reaching comprehensive understanding of its culture. Analysing an organisation’s culture maximises its outcome by theoretical examination and comparison of its culture with its competitors. As an attempt to do so, this essay tries to compare and contrast the organizational culture of University of Leicester with the culture of Sungkyunkwan University using organizational theory of Edgar H. Schein (born 1928). Both, as comprehensive Universities, have various subordinate organisations within its structure and among them this essay will focus on the culture of undergraduate schools in social science study.
