소개

신생아감염시 신경계에 치명적인 손상으로 시각기능이상, 인지기능 이상 등을 일으킬 수 있는 기생충인 톡소포자충(Toxoplasma gondii)에 대한 리포트입니다. 고양이 등을 종 숙주로 하는 기생충으로써 우리 주위에서 쉽게 감염될 수 있는 기생충이기에 그에 대해 기생충학적으로, 그리고 약간의 안과학적인 측면에서 고찰하였습니다.

역사적으로나 사회적으로나 볼 때 인간에게 시력은 그 어떤 감각능력보다도 중요하게 여겨져 왔다. 우리말로 장애인을 일컫는 말 중에서 시각장애인을 일컫는 말인 ‘장님’은 다른 장애인들을 일컫는 말 인 ‘벙어리, 귀머거리, 절름발이, 앉은뱅이’ 등과 비교 해 보았을 때 ‘님’이라는 어미를 붙임으로써 다른 장애와는 차별을 두는 것을 알 수 있다. 그리고 그리스 비극 `에우리피데스‘에 등장하는 맹인 예언자 테이레시아스와 같은 경우에서도 볼 수 있듯이 시각을 상실한 자는 그에 합당하는 특수한 능력을 절대자로부터 부여받는다고 생각할 정도로 시각은 다른 감각보다도 더욱 더 중요한 감각이라고 동서고금을 막론하고 사람들은 생각해 왔다.

기생충으로 인한 시력상실은 대개 안구 구조의 손상으로 오며, 손상 위치에 따라서 각막의 손상으로 인한 시력상실과 망막과 맥락막의 손상으로 인한 시력상실로 나뉠 수 있다. 원인 기생충에는 Toxoplasma gondii, Onchocerca volvulus, Toxocara canis, Brugia malayi, Acanthamoeba 등이 있다. 이 중 Toxoplasma gondii를 중심으로 시각 이상에 대하여 알아 볼 것이다.
