When it came to analyzing Pamela, I could recall the class and gender theory from the Theory Toolbox. In Pamela, there are two clear classes and genders: the rich and the poor, and male and female. On page 92, we can see one passage: “And the Whole will shew the base Arts of designing Men to gain their wicked Ends; and how much it behoves the Fair Sex to stand upon their Guard against their artful Contrivances, especially when Riches and Power conspire against Innocence and a low Estate.”
First of all, I want to talk about what the above passage means. In the last sentence, there are discourses of power: just wealth in apparently and gender which mentioned indirectly. So, I understood the above sentence like this: the rich has power and the poor has innocence. Besides, power symbolizes men, and innocence means women metaphorically in a traditional aspect. And in the first sentence of the above passage, it describes men as having wicked personality and women as defending themselves from wicked men. So I think the passage shows the conflicts between the rich and the poor,
