창림사지 출토 평기와의 특징과 시기 (Characteristics and Periods of Plain roof tiles Excavated at Changlim Temple Site)

초록

약본고는 “창림사지” 발굴조사를 통해 출토된 다종 다량의 기와를 종합적으로 분석하는 연구 중 평기와에 대한 부분이다. 기존의 평기와 연구가 통시적인 전개양상 규명에 집중되어 왔다는 점에서 본 연구는 창림사라고 하는 한정된 공간의 평기와 전개과정을 규명함으로써 해당 시기 경주라고 하는 한정된 지역의 통일신라시대~고려시대 평기와 문화의 공시성을 이해하는데 일조할 것으로 기대된다.연구 결과, 창림사지 평기와의 전개 과정을 총 8단계로 설정하였다. 발굴조사된 유적 하층을 0단계- 7세기 및 9세기 이후의 특징을 가진 기와가 전혀 혼입되지 않은 한정된 시기의 표식적인 단계(8세기 전~중반), Ⅰ단계는 발굴조사된 건물군의 초창과 관련된 단계(8세기 중반~후반), Ⅱ단계는 나말여초기의 평기와 양상을 보이는 단계(9세기 전반~후반), Ⅲ단계는 통일신라 조와체제가 해체되고 고려시대 조와체제로 전이가 진행되는 단계(고려 초), Ⅳ단계는 전형적인 고려시대 기와의 타날 문양인 3단 구획복합문이 등장하기 직전 단계(고려 전기), Ⅴ단계는 전형적인 고려시대 평기와인 3단 구획복합문 타날 기와가 주체를 점하는 단계(고려 중기), Ⅵ단계는 다단구획복합문‧삼각집선문‧능형집선문 등이 주체를 이루는 단계(고려 후기), Ⅶ단계는 창림사지 폐사 이후인 18세기대 “李慶州”명 1점만 해당하는 단계이다.연구를 진행하면서 파악된 창림사지 평기와 전개의 특징으로 ①통일신라시대에 해당하는 평기와에 비해 고려시대 평기와의 수량이 급감한다는 점, ②고려시대를 대표하는 평기와 타날 문양인 어골문의 빈도가 매우 낮다는 점, ③대부분 통일신라시대에만 제작한 것으로 알려진 마루 축조용 기와가 고려 전기에도 제작 전통이 이어지고, 나름의 변화 과정을 보인다는 점 등을 들 수 있다.

영어초록

This thesis is a part of a study on plain roof tiles among the studies that comprehensively analyze a large number of tiles excavated through the excavation survey of "Changlim Temple Site". Given that existing reviews and studies have been focused on the common development pattern, this study is expected to help understand the disclosure of the reviews and culture of the Unified Silla Period to the Goryeo Dynasty in Gyeongju by identifying the limited space(Changlim Temple) evaluation and development process.
As a result of the study, the development process with the plain roof tiles of Changlim Temple Site was set to a total of eight stages. The bottom layer of the excavated site is Stage 0, which is a sign of a limited period of time when roof tiles with characteristics after the 7th and 9th century are not mixed at all (pre-8th century to mid), Stage I is related to the early stages of the excavated building group (mid to late 8th century), Stage II is a stage that shows the general tile form of the early Goryeo Dynasty (first half to second half of the 9th century), Stage III is the stage where the Unified Silla a tile-making system is dissolved and the transition to the Roof Tile Production System during the Goryeo Dynasty is carried out (Early Goryeo), Stage Ⅳ is just before the appearance of the three-stage partition pattern, a typical tile style of the early Goryeo Dynasty(Early Goryeo), Stage Ⅴ is the stage where the three-stage compartment composite pattern plain roof tiles, which are typical of the Goryeo Dynasty, occupy the majority (mid-Goryeo period), Stage Ⅵ is a stage in which multi-level compartment composite patterns, triangular patterns, and rhombus patterns are the main characters (late Goryeo Dynasty), and stage Ⅶ is the stage in which only one piece of writing "李慶州" tiles from the 18th century is identified after Changlim Temple was closed.
Changlim Temple Site's plain roof tiles and development characteristics include the sharp decline in the number of plain roof tiles in the Goryeo Dynasty, the low frequency of Eogolmun(herringbone pattern), which is representative of the Goryeo Dynasty, and There is a point in that roof tiles for floors, which are known to have been made only during the Unified Silla Period, were produced and changed even in the early Goryeo Dynasty.
