루터의 비텐베르크 설교 8편에 대한분석적 고찰 (Analytical Reflexion on Luther's Eight Wittenberg Sermon)

초록

루터는 1522년 사순절 첫 주일부터 8일간 비텐베르크 교회에서 설교했다. 1521년 4월 보름스에서의 심문 후에 루터는 피신할 수밖에 없었다. 이후 비텐베르크 개혁은 루터없이 급진적으로 추진되어 선제후와 시의회와 충돌했다. 때마침 진행되던 농민운동과 더불어 종교개혁은 안팎으로 위기를 맞이했다. 루터는 피난처에서 나와 비텐베르크에서의 8일 설교를 통해 도시의 안정을 회복하고 종교개혁을 계속 추진할 수 있었다.
이 글은 그런 배경을 지닌 비텐베륵 설교의 형식과 내용상의 특징을 분석한다. 형식적으로는 상황에 의해 규정된 ‘전달상의 특징’이 있고, 루터가 말하는 설교의 구성요건에 따른 ‘구조적 특징’이 있다. 전자는 1) 위기상황으로 인한 공감대 2) 설교자의 치밀하고 자상한 설득력 3) 청중들의 깨달음에 머물지 않는 실천에의 촉구 4) 하나님 말씀 아래서의 실존적 진정성으로 요약된다. 후자는 설교자의 여섯 자질, 즉 1) 식별 2) 정의 혹은 묘사 3) 성경인용 4) 예화사용 5) 비유사용 6) 훈계책망이라는 개념적 틀에서 보면, ‘개혁의 전체맥락에 대한 폭넓은 설명’(1,2), ‘성경과 예증을 통한 심층적 전달’(3,4,5), ‘실존적 참여를 통한 호소력의 극대화’(6)가 구조적 특징으로 드러난다.
루터의 설교에서 내용적으로는 ‘그리스도인에게 가장 중요한 것’과 ‘그리스도교 신앙의 판별원리들’이 드러난다. 전자는 설교의 8편 설교의 결론과 서론 부분들에서 나타난다. 그 내용의 핵심은 4항목에 있다: 우리 모두 ‘1) 죄인’이지만, 급진적 개혁은 그 ‘2) 믿음’에 문제가 있기보다는 ‘3) 사랑’이 결핍되었기에 잘못되었고, 올바른 개혁을 위해서는 ‘4) 인내’가 필요하다는 것이다. 그래서 그리스도교 신앙의 판단원리가 4가지로 제시된다: 1) 사랑으로 역사하는 믿음 2) 필수적인 것과 자유로운 것 3) 자유를 법으로 만들지 말라 4) 하나님의 말씀만이 역사하게 하라.
루터의 8편 설교에 대한 분석적 고찰을 통하여 드러난 그의 설교의 목표는 급진개혁이나 기존 교회에 대한 안티테제에 불과한 것이 아니라 복음의 본래적 주제를 성취하는 것으로 나타난다. 이는 또한 루터의 칭의론이 인간적 의의 극복에 불과한 것이 아니라 ‘하나님의 의로 의롭게 됨’을 뜻하듯이, 그의 종교개혁 또한 교황제도의 극복에 불과한 것이 아니라 복음적 삶의 구현에 있다는 것을 알게 된다.

영어초록

Martin Luther preached sermons at Wittenberg church for eight days from the first week of Lent in 1522. He was forced to take shelter following interrogation at Worms in April 1521. Wittenberg reformation was since carried out in a radical way without Luther, resulting in confliction with the Elector and the city council. The Reformation, along with ongoing Peasants' War, faced a crisis within and without. Through eight-day sermons at Wittenberg coming out from his shelter, Luther was able to restore the city's stability and carry on the Reformation.
Against a backdrop of such circumstances, this article analyzes features of form and content of his sermons at Wittenberg. From the aspect of form, the sermons have the 'features in the process of delivery' as well as 'structural features' according to requirements to form a sermon. The former can be summed up by 1) formation of consensus due to an emergency 2) elaborate and considerate persuasion 3) calling on practice beyond the awakening of the audience 4) existential authenticity under the word of God. The latter (structural features), seen from the conceptual framework of six qualities of a preacher - 1) distinguishing ability 2) definition or description 3) Bible quotation 4) use of allegories 5) use of metaphors 6) discipline preach - stand out by 'comprehensive explanation about the whole context of the reformation' (1,2), ‘in-depth delivery through Bible and illustration' (3,4,5) and 'maximized appeal via existential participation' (6).
From the aspect of content of Luther's sermons, there emerge 'what are most important to Christians' and 'principles distinguishing the Christian faith'. The former were shown in conclusions and introductions of eight sermons. The core of the content can be summarized with four points; Though we are all ‘1) guilty’, radical reformation might not be right because of lack of '3) love' rather than problem in '2) faith' and right reformation needs to have ‘4) patience’. Thus, four principles were suggested as a criterion to judge the Christian faith: 1) Faith carried out by love 2) What is essential and what is free 3) Don't make freedom as a law 4) Let only words of God prevail.
The objective of Luther's sermons, as revealed as a result of analytical review on his eight sermons, was not merely an antithesis against the radical reformation or the existing churches, but also to achieve the original theme of the Gospel. This also tells us that as Luther's theory of justification means to 'be made righteous through God's righteousness' beyond the overcoming of human righteousness, his reformation also sought to realize human's living like the Gospel beyond the overcoming of the papal system.
