판소리 명창 설화의 유형과 스토리텔링 방식 (Types of forktales of pansori master singers and storytelling method)

초록

이 논문에서는 수집 가능한 명창 설화를 정리, 분류하여 그 특징을 분석하였다. 특히 명창 설화의 스토리텔링 방식에 주안을 두며, 그 안에 담긴 명창들의 삶과 예술세계, 나아가 설화 속에 반영된 당대인들의 명창에 대한 인식을 파악해 보았다.
명창 설화가 이야기되는 방식은 기이담, 재치담, 수난담, 성공담, 애정담으로 분류할 수 있다. 총 28편의 설화 중 기이담은 7편, 재치담은 3편, 수난담은 6편, 성공담은 6편, 애정담은 6편이다. 이 설화들은 명창들의 삶과 예술세계를 기반으로 당대인들의 기호와 의식에 따라 내용이 구성된 것이다.
기이담과 재치담은 명창들의 재치와 기량을 돋보이게 한다. 명창들의 기량은 선천적 능력인 타고난 재능이나 후천적 노력인 혹독한 수련과정을 통해 발휘된다. 그 중 하늘이 내린 재능이라는 점을 강조하기 위해, 귀신, 여우구슬 등의 요소를 덧붙여 기이성을 부각시킨다. 또한 양반들이 그들의 재능을 오락거리로 삼는 것을 재치로 극복하는 내용은 당대인들의 흥미를 더욱 자아낼 수 있었다.
수난담과 성공담은 판소리 명창이 수련하는 과정에서 겪는 고난과 이를 극복하고 판소리사에서 공적을 이룬 명창들의 이야기를 다루고 있다. 다른 이야기에 비해 위기와 고난을 겪는 서사가 극적인 감동을 주기에 판소리 애호가들에게 사랑을 받았던 이야기였을 것이라고 본다.
한편, 애정관계는 명창들의 예술적 영감을 불러일으키는 수단이 되어, 새로운 작품 출현의 계기로 작용한다. 특정한 작품에 애정과 관련된 서사를 부여함으로써 그 노래의 감흥을 높이는 기능을 하는 것이다.
오늘날 18~20세기에 활동한 명창들의 삶과 예술세계를 확인해볼 수 있는 공식적인 문헌 자료가 거의 없다. 따라서 명창들의 삶과 기량, 수련과정이 돋보인 명창설화는 그들이 명창이라는 칭호를 얻기까지 겪게 되었던 과정을 재구해 볼 수 있는 자료로 활용될 수 있기에 가치있다.

영어초록

For this paper, the characteristics of collectible masterpiece stories were organized and classified, and their characteristics were analyzed. In particular, focusing on the Storytelling method in folktales of pansori master singers, I tried to grasp the life and artistic world of the master singers contained in it, and furthermore, the perception of people of the day reflected in the folktales.
The way in folktales of master singers are told can be categorized into a story of strange, a story of wit, a story of suffering, a story of success, and a story of romance. Of a total of 28 stories, there are 7 strange, 3 wit, 6 suffering, 6 success, and 6 romance. These stories are structured according to the tastes and consciousness of the people of the time based on the actual events of the master singers.
Strange and wit stories stand out wit and skills of the master singers. The skills of master singers are exerted through innate talents, which are innate abilities, or through harsh training courses, which are acquired endeavors. Among them, elements such as ghosts and fox beads are added to highlight the oddity in order to emphasize that it is a talent from the sky. In addition, the content of overcoming the nobels use of their talents as entertainment with wit could arouse the interest of the people of the day.
Suffering and success stories deal with the hardships experienced by masters of Pansori in the process of training and the stories of masters who overcame them and achieved achievements in the history of Pansori. Compared to other stories, the narrative that suffers from crisis and hardship gave a dramatic impression, so I think it must have been loved by pansori lovers.
On the other hand, the relationship of love serves as a means to arouse artistic inspiration from master singers, and acts as an opportunity for the emergence of new works. By giving a narrative related to affection to a specific work, it functions to enhance the impression of the song.
Today, there are few official literature sources that can confirm the lives and art worlds of master singers who were active in the 18th and 20th centuries. Therefore, the folktales about master singers with outstanding lives, skills, and training courses are valuable because they can be used as a material to reconsider the process they experienced before they obtained the title of master singer.
