초록

This study set out to analyze the Korean History textbooks used in middle and high school and six kinds of Korean Modern-Contemporary History textbooks that were written according to the current 7th National Curriculum. Each of those textbooks was analyzed in terms of the overall the structure and Components and the characteristics. On the basis of textbook functions as teaching materials or learning materials, the textbooks were reviewed for their viewpoints of history textbooks hidden in the backgrounds.
Then a group of useful ideas to write a new textbook were sorted out and used to suggest improvement measures. Each of the textbooks in the 7th National Curriculum that were analyzed in the study did contain various useful ideas that could be referred to.
Especially, the Korean Modern-Contemporary History textbooks offered a wide range of data groups. Kumsung, for example, encouraged learning about figures through "A Look at Figures" and introduced diverse historical perspectives through "Fields of History." Doosan had "Scenery through Photos" to help the students understand the historical scenes vividly.
The textbooks also included a variety of ideas that would help the students enhance their historical thinking and perform their functional as learning materials to stimulate the students' interest and guide them through a learning process. The examples include exploration activities using historical records, questions at the introduction to a small unit, learning guidance by cartoon characters, extremely big chronological tables and maps, information about the related websites on the Internet, puzzle games for review, and performance evaluations for active task assignment.
