초록

The purpose of this study was to obtain the basic data on communication for married migrant women in hospital setting. The subjects were 8 immigrant women whose children had been hospitalized and 8 pediatric nurses. The data were collected from December 2009 to April 2010 through the interview and analyzed by Conventional Content Analysis. The results showed that the omen experienced difficulties in understanding and expressing themselves. These women passively followed the instructions and used non-verbal expressions when they needed to talk. They depended on their husbands and family members for communication. Difficulties in communication made them avoid interaction with the nurses, be incompetent on taking care of their offsprings and get low self-esteem. Nurses also had difficulties with having reciprocal interaction so they gave instructions indirectly through their family members. However, these women were pleased with fairness and high quality of nursing services. In conclusion, the interpretation service and linguistic assistance in medical situation are greatly needed.
