초록

The 1990’s discourses concerning the unification of Korea were rooted in moral causes for ‘eliminating the divided situation’ and ‘reuniting the families separated by north and south’. Without doubt, these were proclaiming a‘national’ unification in Korea; but, now in the 21st century, the world-wide trend of globalization has driven such nationalistic cliche on the edge. The present study thus attempts to reestablish the identity of Korean unification in the context of the 21st century, in terms of biblical reflection.
The Old Testament unfolds various theological ideas on territory. Especially the book of Ezekiel presents ideal thoughts on borderlines and allocation of the Israelite land, from which a clue for unification theology could be found. The present study is set up on the analyses of Ezekiel’s reform program(chapter II) and survey of the history of scholarly debates on ‘Korea after unification’(chapter III); it will finally propose a picture of Korea united in accordance with Ezekiel’s reform program.
It will first propose a management of nation (and also of world) under the sovereign쇼 of God, i.e. by means of religious values, absolutely denouncing the management by physical power. It is thrusting a new world-view that respects values, not physical power. The united Korea must be a value-oriented and value-conveying nation that strongly denounces the globalization supported by physical power. Surely the globalization is the major mechanism in the 21st century’s world. In the past we used to have the world of military struggle, but now we have that of power struggle where the poor nations and enterprises are constantly exploited in the midst of financial, industrial and technological competition. It is therefore necessary to pursue a globalization of values, and united Korea must be the one to make it.
Second, the united Korea should inherit the Ezekiel’s idea on territory and also others in the Old Testament and contribute to make peace in the world, eliminating the oppressive and exploiting world-view. The salvation of all nations in the world could be achieved not by oppression and exploiting but by ‘rightness’.
Third, the united Korea is to be intercultural, no longer nationalistic. The immigrants from foreign nations should not be oppressed and exploited as chief labor means but should be a part of YHWH community along with the Israelites. The vivid international exchanges in the 21st century tell that the world is now an intercultural society. Accordingly the ideas expressed in national solidarity or unification are going against today’s currents in the world. Therefore the unification with the North Korea to obtain chief labor means would definitely cause another polarization in society.
Fourth, the united Korea must not be a politics-oriented nation, but a value-oriented nation that is able to overcome various polarizations born out of current globalization. It must be a federal state, not a centralized government, where many kinds of devices for inclusiveness are equipped and diverse local characteristics are appreciated, as demonstrated in the tribal federation in the Old Testament. Above all, any particular group, locality or class, should not exclusively obtain political power or be exclusively neglected. All should be given an equal responsibility and power.
