통일신라시대 ‘儀鳳四年皆土’명 명문와의 분석 (Analysis of the ‘Euibong Sanyeon Gaeto’ Roof Tiles with Inscriptions from the United Silla Period)

초록

‘儀鳳四年皆土’명 명문와는 통일신라시대 왕궁 영역에서 다량 보고된다. 암막새 문양 중 가장 빠른 형태이며, 유물 외면에서 명문이 관찰된다. 이는 유물이 가지는 중요함을 말해준다.
‘儀鳳四年皆土’명 명문와는 동궁 창건와로 제작되었다. 15곳의 유적에서 117점 이상 출토되었다. 완형에 가까운 유물은 2점에 불과하며, 대부분 편으로 출토되었다. 유물은 건물지, 해자, 배수로, 석조 유구, 낙수 시설 등에서 보고되었다.
유물은 외면에서 관찰되는 특징에 따라 Ⅰ~Ⅲ형식으로 분류하였다. Ⅰ형식은 3종류로 나뉘며, 5개의 타날판을 확인하였다. 이를 통해 타날판 형태, 명문 방향, 타날판의 시작점, 와도흔, 정면 방법 등의 특징을 관찰할 수 있다. Ⅱ형식은 단판타날 후 명문 인장을 찍은 형식이다. Ⅲ형식은 중판타날 후 명문 인장을 찍은 형식이다. Ⅱ･Ⅲ 형식은 Ⅰ형식에서 확인되는 사격자문이 관찰되지 않으며, 글자의 방향도 다르다. 경주 나정과 발천 유적에서 출토되었다.
Ⅰ형식의 ‘儀鳳四年皆土’명 명문와 외면에는 사격자문과 명문이 관찰된다. 동궁과 월지 출토 井 자명 명문와에도 사격자문과 명문이 확인된다. 이를 통해 명문와 외면에서 관찰되는 사격자문은 문양으로 판단하였다. ‘儀鳳四年 명문은 유물의 제작과 사용 시기를 유추할 수 있다. 皆土’의 명문 분석은 왕토사상, 삼국통일, 토목공사, 왕궁 건설의 안녕과 번영, 인명으로 해석되었다. 필자는 유물이 폐기된 이후에도 물과 관련된 유구에서 출토되는 사례를 통해 제의와 관련된 것으로 보았다.

영어초록

Tiles inscribed with ‘Euibong Sanyeon Gaeto’ have been reported in large numbers in the royal court area of the Unified Silla Dynasty. These are the earliest form of concave eave-end roof tiles and the inscriptions are found on the exterior of the artifacts. This illustrates the importance of these artifacts. Tiles inscribed with ‘Euibong Sanyeon Gaeto’ were produced as the founding roof tiles of Donggung Palace. More than 117 artifacts were recovered from 15 sites. Only two artifacts are close to complete, and most were excavated in pieces. These artifacts have been recovered from building sites, moats, ditches, stone mounds, and drainage facilities. The artifacts were categorized into types I through III according to the features observed on the exterior. Type I is divided into three subtypes, and we have identified five tanalpans. This allows us to observe features such as tanalpan shapes, inscription orientation, tanalpan starting points, traces of a tile-cutting knife, and the jeongmyeon method. Type II is characterized by inscribed seals stamped after beating with a single plate. Type Ⅲ is characterized by inscribed seals stamped after beating with double plates. Types Ⅱ and Ⅲ lack the lattice letters found in type I, and the orientation of the letters is different. They were excavated from the ruins of Najeong and Balcheon in Gyeongju. Lattice patterns and inscriptions are observed on the exterior of the roof tiles inscribed with ‘Euibong Sanyeon Gaeto’. These features are also observed on the roof tiles inscribed with 井 excavated from Donggung and Wolji. Based on this, the lattice letters observed on the exterior of the inscribed tiles were judged to be a pattern. The ‘Euibong Sanyeon Gaeto’ inscription can be used to infer when an artifact was made and used. The Gaeto’ inscription was interpreted to mean the thought of the royal land, the unification of the three kingdoms, the well-being and prosperity of civil works and the construction of the royal palace, and the names of people. These are considered to be related to rituals based on cases where artifacts were found in water-related ruins even after they were discarded.
