초록

오늘날 한국사회에서 펼쳐지고 있는 마을/공동체 행동은, 지금껏 전개되어 왔던 풀뿌리 운동 지형의 새로운 재편을 반영하고 있는 것과 동시에, 그동안 혈연 중심의 모둠살이 정도로 여겨져 왔던 마을/공동체의 의미론적ㆍ실천론적 위상의 변곡점 혹은 그 확장성을 포괄하고 있다. 다만 민속학적 입장에서 볼 때, 문제는 여기에 접근하는 경로를 어떻게 설정할 수 있는지에 대한 천착 혹은 그 역사적 탐구와 정립이 필요하다는 점일 수 있다. 이 글은 현재의 시점에서 이러한 문제를 해소하기 위해 그 한 가지 경로로서 한반도에서 펼쳐졌던 공동체문화 실천의 어떤 흐름 혹은 사례에 대한 역사적 계열화를 시도한 것이다.
이를 위해 이 글은 일제강점기와 해방 직후라는 시기에 걸쳐 출현했던 무교회주의의 흐름을 주요 사례로서 접근한다. 먼저 통시적 관점에서 무교회주의자들의 실천과 사상 및 행적을 추적하고 그 역사적 의미를 탐색함으로써 현재의 공동체문화 실천과의 연관 관계 속에서 분석한다. 그런 다음, 해당 공동체운동의 특이성과 역동성을 검토하기 위해, 현재 한국사회에서 다각화되고 있는 공동체문화 실천과의 연계 속에서 그 역사적 원천성을 논의한다. 기본적으로 무교회주의는 제도적ㆍ의식적 조건을 필요로 하지 않음을 지향하고 형제적 공동체를 강조함으로써 아나키적인 것과 코뮨적인 것이 결합된 성격이 발견된다. 이와 아울러, 국가의 형성ㆍ근대의 도래ㆍ외세의 침입이라는 국면 혹은 정세 속에서 해당 사례는 대안적 흐름을 주조할 수 있었는데, 이때 근대성의 시공간 속에서 마을 혹은 공동체를 거점으로 한 가치실천 양식이 새롭게 고안되었다는 점은 이 글의 관점에서 매우 중요한 대목이라고 할 수 있다.
민속적 관점에서 이와 같은 흐름은 궁극적으로 민속의 근대적 배치 혹은 그 변환과 생성이라는 생각을 경유하여 정리될 필요가 있을 것이다. 특히 공동체문화 실천이 시대의 변화에 조응할 뿐 아니라 체제가 야기한 위기에 대한 대응으로서 대안적 희구와 상상들과 동궤를 이루며 민속의 의미 지평을 확장ㆍ변환시키며 전개되었고, 또 앞으로도 그럴 가능성이 있다고 할 때, 이 글은 역사적인 관점에서 그 초기의 실천 양식이 어떻게 주조 혹은 현실화될 수 있었는지 짚어보고 그 의미를 살펴본다는 점에서 연구의 의의를 확보할 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

The village/community behavior unfolding in Korean society today reflects a new reorganization of the grassroots movement landscape that has been developed so far, and at the same time, it encompasses the inflection point or expandability of the semantic and practical status of the village/community that has been considered to be a family life centered on blood ties. However, from a folk perspective, the problem may be that it is necessary to explore or establish a historical inquiry and establishment of how the path to approach this can be established. In order to solve this problem in the present point of view, this article attempts to historically sequence a certain flow or case of community culture practice on the Korean Peninsula.
To this end, this article approaches the flow of non-churchism that emerged during Japanese colonial era and the period immediately after liberation as a major example. First, from a diachronic point of view, the practice, thoughts, and deeds of non-churchists are tracked, and their historical meaning is explored to analyze in the relationship with the practice of current community culture. Then, in order to examine the specificity and dynamics of the community movement, its historical origin is discussed in connection with the practice of community culture that is currently diversifying in Korean society. Basically, non-churchism aims to avoid institutional and conscious conditions, and by emphasizing brotherly communities, a combination of the anarchic and the communic is found. In addition, in the phase or situation of national formation, the advent of modernity, and the invasion of foreign countries, the case could cast an alternative flow, and the fact that a new style of value practice based on a village or community was devised in the space and time of modernity is a very important point from the perspective of this article.
From a folk point of view, this trend will ultimately need to be organized through the idea of the modern arrangement of folklore or its transformation and creation. In particular, community culture practice was developed by expanding and transforming the meaning horizon of folklore by forming a line with alternative metaphors and imaginations as a response to the crisis caused by the system as well as responding to the changes of the times, and it is possible that this article will secure the significance of the study in that it examines how the early practice style could be cast or realized from a historical point of view and examines its meaning.
