종교경험의 가능근거인 표상을 향한 정향성(Conversio ad Phantasma) 연구: 아퀴나스와 칸트 인식론에 대한 칼 라너의 실존론적 통찰을 중심으로 (A Study on Conversio ad Phantasma as the Ground of Possibility for Religious Experience: with Special Reference to Karl Rahner’s Existential Insights into Thomistic and Kantian Epistemologies)

칼 라너는 아리스토텔레스-아퀴나스 전통의 인식형이상학과 칸트의 선험적 구성론을 실존론적으로 전회하여, 실존적으로 유의미한 신-인 관계를 개방하는 종교경험의 원초적 가능근거를 규명하였다. 그는 지성의 노에시스에 과도하게 편중되어 있는 아퀴나스 인식론의 노에시스적 질료형상설로는 칸트의 순수이성 비판, 그 중에서도 신 이념의 가상성에 대한 비판에 대응하기 어렵다는 사실을 인지하였다. 이에 라너는 하이데거의 실존구조 분석에 힘입어, 아퀴나스의 주지주의적 인식형이상학을 표상을 향한 정향성 중심의 존재론적 인식론으로 재해석하였다. 그리고 칸트의 선험적 구성론이 시간과 공간을 직관형식으로만 제한하여 실존의 본질적 구조인 초월과 세계 내 정신을 왜곡하고 있다고 비판하였다.
이를 위해서 라너는 초월의 구체적 양태인 존재소유, 그리고 이 존재소유의 원초적 가능근거인 감각적 표상을 분석하였다. 라너는 이 감각적 표상이 신의 직접성이 매개되는 초월의 원초적 근거임을 분석적으로 제시한다. 아울러 이 감각적 표상이 시간성과 공간성의 실존방식을 통해서 분명한 실존적 경험을 근거로 정립됨을 밝혔다. 이와 같은 라너의 통찰은, 전 인류가 신의 자기양여에 개방된 세계 내 정신으로서, 감각적 표상으로의 정향을 원초적 계기로 하여, 그리고 존재물음을 원인적 계기로 하여 종교경험의 수혜자가 될 수 있음을 변론하는 데 기여하였다.

영어초록

Karl Rahner’s existential analysis of conversio ad phantasma is predominantly focused on the investigation into the convincing possibility of religious experience among everyday experience(alltägliche Erfahrung). He, with an anchoring in Thomas Aquinas, reinterprets phantasma in Thomist metaphysics of knowledge and Vorstellung in Kantian epistemology on the methodological rationale of Heidegger’s existential ontology. Rahner presupposes that human being is, in his own finitude, transcendentally and freely open to the self-communication of God as Being itself. Human being transcends the self to the infinity of Being itself in his freedom on the paradoxical rationale of finitude. And the transcendence steers human being to the question of Being. The question of Being is the instantaneous moment of religious experience meaningful to Divine-human relationship.
Therefore, it might be conceded that transcendence and the question of Being are the immediate moments of religious experience. Rahner delves into the existential discernment concealed in the noetic hylemorphism of Aristotelian-Thomist metaphysics of knowledge. Rahner hereby substantiates that human being as spirit in the world transcends the self by the possession of Being(Seinshabe). He subsequently illuminates that conversio ad phantasma commences the possession of Being due to its condition of possibility, the pre-apprehension of Being(Vorgriff auf esse). Human being thus incessantly exists open to God’s self-communication by tuning to the phantasms of finitude and infinity. At some point in his existence, in an inner moment of an authentic affirmation of existential finitude in its totality, the phantasms of finitude and infinity would be thematized in terms of the question of God. Everyday experience thus converts into religious one.
Kantian critique of pure reason dissents from Rahner’s analysis, as Kant confirms that Vorstellung derives from subject’s internal pure forms of intuition, space and time. Rahner rebuts Kant’s contention by charging him with his disregard for the ontological fact that the forms of intuition of space and time derive from evident ontic experiences. Rahner reinterprets conversio ad phantasma as the primordial condition of possibility of experiencing God’s mediated immediacy in and through the presence of the finite existent, with the intention of defending the universality of agape.
