義城지역 향촌지배층의 동학농민군 진압 (The Ruling Class Suppression on Struggle of Donghak Force in Uisung-gun)

초록

The strife of ‘Donghak force’(東學農民軍) in Youngnam region was not as active as it was in Honam area. The purpose of this study is to chase and analyze the strife of Donghak force and the forming of ‘Anti-Donghak force’(反東學軍) against Donghak force which took place in Uisung-gun region of Gyungbuk province. To support this study, ‘Namhunyujip’(楠軒遺集) and ‘Document of Yi Jang-hoe’(「李章繪 隆熙四年記錄」) are used.
The strife of Donghak force was founded upon religious congregations which led to the expansion of Donghak influence. Exterior factors such as foreign army stationed in Josun, and internal factors such as drought, famine, tax burden and discrimination(status & region) have gained people’s displeasure. These factors have led people to join Donghak influence.
The strife of Donghak force in Uisung-gun(義城郡) has started from Bian-hyun(比安縣) and flowed into Uisung-hyun(義城縣). This Donghak force attacked and occupied the Uisung-hyun government office(의성관아), and gradually enforced itself. And this has gained the attention of regional ruling class, which led to the forming of Anti-Donghak force against Donghak force. Shin Myun-hyung(申冕瀅) was the first person to organize the Anti-Donghak force, and Yi Jang-hoe(李章繪) greatly contributed to the recruiting of combat force.
The Anti-Donghak force has fought three battles against Donghak force. The first battle(Battle of Dogok, 陶谷戰鬪) was carried by Shin Myun-hyung’s Anti-Donghak force, and gained victory through systematic tactics. The second battle(Battle of Guichun, 龜川戰鬪) was carried by alliance of Shin Myung-hyung’s Anti-Donghak force and Yi Jang-hoe’s. Alliance demanded Donghak force to surrender, and attacked those who did not accept it.
The last battle(Battle of Gilpo, 吉浦戰鬪) took place in Anpyung-myun(安平面). The Anti-Donghak force was divided into advanced force and main force, and the advanced force has carried out the Battle of Gilpo. The main force stayed in Chulpa of Uisung-hyun to act as backup force. After the battle, the Anti-Donghak force received the compliment of Yi Gwan-young(governer of Uisung-hyun) and disorganized themselves.
This study reveals the unknown strife of Donghak force in Uisung-gun region, and the Anti-Donghak force which confronted them. Therefore, we can see that the strife of Donghak force of Youngnam was not ‘never existed’, but was ‘faintly performed’.
