고전적 정리의 측면에서 본『한국문집총간』 편찬의 의의와 향후 과제 (The Significance and the future challenges of publication of『the Comprehensive Publication of Korean Literary Collectionsin Classical Chinese』 in terms of compilation project for Korean classics)

초록

본 논문은 『한국문집총간』 편찬 사업의 추진 배경과 그 경과, 편찬의 구체적 과정과 절차를 고찰하고 그것을 바탕으로 한국 고전적 정리 사업에서 『한국문집총간』 편찬이 갖는 의의와 향후 과제를 제시하고자 한 것이다.
한국고전번역원의 전신인 민족문화추진회에서 고전적 정리 사업이 본격적으로 추진된 것은 1986년 「고전국역활성화방안」이 시행되면서부터이다. 이에 따라 1986년 8월 「한국문집총간 편찬사업 종합계획」이 확정되었고, 1년여의 준비 끝에 1988년 1차분 20책이 간행된 이후 2005년까지 정편 350책이 간행되었다. 『한국문집총간』 속편은 예산상의 이유로 『한국문집총간』 정편에서 유보된 문집과 이후에 조사된 문집 중 학술적 가치가 있는 문집을 대상으로 2005년부터 2012년까지 총 150책이 간행되었다.
『한국문집총간』은 수록 대상 서목의 선정, 원전 자료의 수집 및 저본의 선정, 표점 및 감수, 범례와 목차의 작성 및 본문의 편집 등 주요하게는 4가지의 구체적인 단계와 절차를 거쳐 편찬되었다. 7500여 종의 전체 한국 문집을 조사하여 그 중 학술적 가치가 높은 1259종의 문집을 엄선한 다음 철저한 이본 조사를 거쳐 선본을 저본으로 확정하고 이용자들의 독해를 돕기 위해 2가지 부호를 사용하여 원문에 표점을 하였다. 또한 현재적 관점에서 학술적 가치가 있는 고전적을 이용자가 연구에 활용하는 데 편리하도록 한다는 원칙하에 새로운 편집을 시도하였다. 상세한 내용과 체계적인 편집을 특징으로 하는 목차, 저자에 대한 소개와 간행 경위 및 서지사항 등을 기술한 범례, 원래 문집 편찬자의 편집 의도를 충실하게 반영한 본문의 편집 등에서 『한국문집총간』 편집 체제의 특징을 살펴볼 수 있다.
『한국문집총간』은 기획부터 포함하면 27년간 연인원 700여 명이 참여한 대규모의 고전적 정리 사업이다. 新羅 崔致遠(857∼?)의 『桂苑筆耕集』에서 구한말의 학자 盧相稷(1855∼1931)의 『小訥集』에 이르기까지 각 시대별, 분야별로 한국학 연구에 중요한 자료가 되는 1259종의 문집을 수록하고 있으며 원서로는 7,200여 책에 이르고 원문 글자 수는 약 2억여 자에 이르는 방대한 양으로, 그 규모의 방대함만으로도 한국 고전적 정리의 역사에서 한 획을 그었다고 할 만하다. 또한 권위 있는 공공기관이 치밀한 계획하에 철저한 학문적 수순과 방법을 거쳐 문집을 집성, 편찬, 간행한 사업으로서, 대규모 총서의 편찬이란 방법으로 고전적을 정리하는 모범을 제시하였다.
그러나 『한국문집총간』은 영인이라는 인쇄 방법상의 제약 등으로 인해 2가지 표점 부호만 사용하는 등 초보적인 가공에 머물렀다는 점, 고전적 정리의 필수적인 방법이자 과정인 교감이 이루어지지 않은 점 등의 한계를 갖고 있다. 따라서 이후 한국 고전적 정리 사업에 있어서 『한국문집총간』의 성과를 계승하고 그 한계를 넘어서기 위해서는 첫째 문집 이외의 고전적에 대한 체계적인 집성과 간행, 둘째 『한국문집총간』 수록 문집을 대상으로 철저한 교감과 상세한 표점을 통한 정본화 사업, 셋째 현존하는 한국 문집 전체를 대상으로 각 문집의 판본 현황과 주요 소장처 등에 대한 정보가 포함된 『한국문집총목록』의 편찬 등이 필요하다.

영어초록

In this paper, the background and the progress of the compilcatory project of 『the Comprehensive Publication of Korean Literary Collections in Classical Chinese』 and the actualized process and procedure of it are considered. On the basis of it, the significance and the future challenges of compilation of 『the Comprehensive Publication of Korean Literary Collections in Classical Chinese』, in terms of compilation project for original classical literature are presented.
It was not until the Program for the 'Revitalization of the Translation of Korean Classics Project' was carried into effect in 1986 that the compilation project for Korean classics was moved into high gear at KCRI (the Korean Classics Research Institute) prior to the Institute for the Translation of Korean Classics. Accordingly, in August 1986, the master plan for completing the project for the Comprehensive Publication of Korean Literary Collections in Classical Chinese was confirmed. After a year of preparation, the first 20 volumes were published in 1988, after that, the original collection of 350 volumes was completed by 2005. From 2005 to 2012, the total 150 volumes were published. Those are the reserved original copies, due to budgetary limits and the most important Literary Collections among those that were studied.
『the Comprehensive Publication of Korean Literary Collections in Classical Chinese』 was published through specialized steps and procedures which were selecting the titles to be included, collecting the original materials with the original texts, the marking of exact punctuation and supervision, and the creation of introductory remarks and table of contents. Afteracademically high-value 1259 titles of literary collections was carefully selected among 7500 literary collections of the entire Korean Literary Collections in Classical Chinese, confirming the most reliable editions as the original text through re-examining the different editions, and, finally, marking of the exact punc tuation was followed with two kind of code to help the user comprehend them easily. In additional, a new attempt to edit was tried with the idea of making it easier for users to study original literature in current perspective.
The special features of the editing system in "the Comprehensive Publi cation of Korean Literary Collections in Classical Chinese" can be seen in the table of contents, characterized by details and systematic editorial notes explaining about the author and publishing detail, introductory remarks with bibliography, and editing of the main text to reflect the intent of the original editors for the anthology.
『the Comprehensive Publication of Korean Literary Collections in Classical Chinese』 is representing the work of 700 people for 27 years. Including from Kyewŏ p’ilgyŏg chip (桂苑筆耕集 Plowing the Cassia Grove with a Writing Brush) by Ch’ŏ Ch’iwŏ (崔致遠, 857-?) of the Silla Kingdom, through to Sonooljib(小訥集) by Nosanggik(盧相稷, 1855∼1931) in the late Chosŏn Dyna sty, it contains 1259 high-value titles of literary collections in Korean studies by sector and age, encompassing 7,000 volumes and around 200 million chara cters and marks a new epoch in the history of compilation project for Korean classics in breadth of scale.
However, it has limitations of undone correction,- an essential procedure in this complicated project for Korean classics, as well as marking of the exact punctuation with only two kind of code due to the restrictions of photo copy reproduction. Therefore, it is needed to uphold the achievement of AAA and overcome the limitations in the complicated project of Korean classics that first, systematic completion and publication of classical literature origi nals (more than anthologies); second, certifying the original collections conta ined in AAA through corrections and marking of the exact punctuation; lastly, it is essential to publish a Catalog of all the literary collections in Korea, containing information about their present condition and where they are located.
