초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the perception of Hwaseong felt by Chae Je-gong at the time and its poetic formation by focusing on the major role played at the Hwaseong fortress in the old age of Chae Je-gong’s life. Unlike the emphasis on King Jeongjo’s political achievements or Chae Je-gong’s role as a bureaucrat in relation to ‘Hwaseong’, it is thought that it is a meaningful work in that it examines Chae Je-gong’s perception of Hwaseong through his Chinese poetry works.
Chae Je-gong’s collection of literary works, “Beonamjip(樊巖集)”, of which the compilation King Jeongjo was involved in, and in “Gaenghwarok(賡和錄)”, there are many brilliant works between the king and his subjects. Among them, there are many works exchanged during the Hwaseong fortress period which can be referred to. In addition, Chae Je-gong’s collection of literary works, “Beonamjip Vol. 18”, is the “Heenyeonrok(稀年錄) 中”, and as there are works created during the Hwaseong fortress period that contain the consciousness and emotions of Chae Je-gong at the time.
While Chae Je-gong organized and supervised Hwaseong fortress, when King Jeongjo made a royal visit to Hyeonryungwon to make a face to face greeting(行幸), the two King and servant exchanged poetry each time. This means that the works written by Chae Je-gong in Hwaseong not only played a literary function of expressing the emotions of Chae Je-gong, but also told us that it was one of the methods of communication between the king and his servant. Because it was a choral poem with the King, Chae Je-gong emphasized the meaning of Hwaseong fortress in his poems, praising the King’s virtue and easygoing prosperity. Related works can be said to be works that prominently express Chae Je-gong’s literary characteristics as a bureaucrat.
Second, the characteristics of the works written in the space called ‘Chaeroheon(采露軒)’ were examined. Chae Je-gong, who was given a heavy duty in his old age, longed for a retire‐rest in Chaeroheon. But on the surface he longed for a retire‐rest, but he thought of the King’s royal visit, and he implicitly expressed that his job was to serve the King. This study considered that Chaeroheon, a space that longed for a retire‐rest after completing the Hwaseong fortress mission, is a paradoxical space that shows the will to fulfill the sense of duty as an old servant. Also, through this, it was possible to confirm his loyalty to fulfill his responsibilities as a servant.
