제4차 산업혁명시대, 돌봄과 공생의양명학 (The Fourth Industrial Revolution Era, Yang-Ming Studies of Care and Co-existence)

초록

우리는 이미 제4차 산업혁명시대에 진입해 있다. 그리고 우리 삶의 환경은 4차 산업혁명시대에 맞추어 매우 빠른 속도로 변화해 가고 있다. 본 논문에서는 제4차 산업혁명시대에 양명학은 무슨 의미가 있으며, 어떠한 문제를 해결해 줄 수 있는가 하는 문제를 다룬다. 제4차 산업혁명시대에 있어서의 양명학의 의미와 역할은 다음과 같이 세 가지 측면으로 정리해 볼 수 있다.
첫째, 생명을 살리는 ‘살림의 창의성’이다. 제4차 산업혁명시대에 요구되는 인간의 중요한 역량 가운데 하나가 ‘창의성’이다. 양명학에서 창의성의 원동력은 인간 양지(良知) 의 ‘수시변역성(隨時變易性)’에서 찾을 수 있다. 양지는 생명을 질곡 시킬 수 있는 고정된규범과 격식으로부터 인간을 해방시켜준다. 양지는 어떠한 기성의 권위나 이해득실에 얽매이지 않는다. 단지 마주한 상황에 따라 거짓됨 없는 진실한 상태에서 있는 그대로 시비와 진위를 판단한다. 이것이 바로 인간의 주체성에 근거한 양지의 수시변역성으로서 오늘날 요구되는 창의성이라고 할 수 있다. 양명학에서 말하는 양지의 창의성은 지식과 이익의 차원을 넘어 우주적 차원과 생명의 차원에서의 창의성이라고 할 수 있다. 즉 생명을살리는 ‘살림의 창의성’이라고 이름 할 수 있다.
둘째, 통각과 감통에 근거한 ‘돌봄과 배려와 치유’이다. 자본주의와 신자유주의는 무한경쟁으로 인해 치유하기 힘든 갈등과 상처를 안겨주었다. 이제 자신의 이익만을 위한 경쟁과 갈등에서 서로를 보살피는 ‘돌봄’과 ‘배려’와 ‘차유’의 세계로 나아가야 한다. 양명학에서는 돌봄과 배려와 치유의 근거를 ‘양지’에서 찾을 수 있다. 양지는 바로 ‘통각(痛覺)’ 과 ‘감통(感通)’의 주체이다. 통각이란 다른 존재물이 손상되었을 때 그것을 나의 아픔으로 느끼는 것이며, 감통은 내 마음이 아프기 때문에 다른 존재물을 배려하고 돌보고 치유하는 것이다. 제4차 산업혁명시대에도 우리는 우리의 손길을 필요로 하는 사람들을 위해양지를 바탕으로 이들을 보살피고 돌보면서 이들의 아픔과 상처를 치유하고 함께 더불어살아가야 할 것이다. 이것이야말로 우리가 기계와 지식의 노예가 되지 않는 진정한 사람다운 삶이라고 할 수 있을 것이다.
셋째, 존재의 하나 됨을 위한 ‘상생과 공생’이다. 제4차 산업혁명시대는 ‘초연결 사회((hyper-connected Society)’라고 한다. 초연결 사회는 공간적 제약을 뛰어넘어 ‘사람과사람’만이 아니라 ‘사람과 자연’ 나아가 ‘사람과 사물’까지도 하나로 연결된 사회이다. 양명학에서는 모든 존재물들을 유기적 관계망으로 이루어진 하나의 생명체로 보면서 구성원들을 상생과 공생의 관계로 본다. 인간은 우주자연의 마음, 즉 우주자연의 생명 손상에대해 이를 자신의 아픔으로 느끼는 통각의 주체이자 아프기 때문에 이들의 손상과 상처를 치유하는 감통의 주체이다. 초연결 사회에서도 인간은 모든 존재물에 대한 통각과 감통의 주체가 되어야 한다. 물론 다른 인간에 대해, 그리고 동식물과 같은 자연물에 대해우리는 그들의 생명 손상을 아파하고 치유할 수 있어야 한다. 그리고 인공지능, 자율주행차, 사물인터넷, 로봇 등과 같은 인공사물 또한 천지만물일체설의 관점에서 봤을 때 전체생명의 한 부분이다. 따라서 이들 또한 소중하게 대함은 물론 통각과 감통의 대상으로 삼고, 이들과 함께 상생하고 공생할 수 있는 길을 열어가야 할 것이다.

영어초록

We have just entered the era of the Fourth industrial revolution. And our living conditions in that context are undergoing a rapid and considerable change. In this paper, the author tries to clarify the issues concerning which significances the Yangming studies have in the Fourth industrial revolution, and whether it can solve problems of the era. The significances and roles of Yangming studies in the Fourth industrial revolution can be considered in three aspects as follows.
First, the ‘creativity of revival’ which revives the life. One of the capabilities that man needs in the Fourth industrial revolution is the very ‘creativity’. In Yangming studies, the driving force of the creativity can be found in the ‘transformation according to time’ (隨時 變易性) of the ‘Innate knowledge’ (良知). The Innate knowledge liberates man from the fetter of inflexible standards and formalities. The Innate knowledge is not restricted to some established authority or problem of gain and loss. According to the situation that must be faced, it makes judgments frankly in the honest state without lie. It is the very ‘transformation according to time’ of the Inner knowledge which is based on man’s identity and can be thus called the creativity which is necessary to man nowadays. The creativity of the Innate knowledge in Yangming studies can be called the creativity from the dimension of life and the cosmic dimension, exceeding the dimensions of profits and knowledge. It means it can be called the ‘creativity of revival’ that saves the life. Second, the ‘care and concern and cure’ based on the sense of pain and the empathy.
The capitalism and the neo-liberalism, through the infinite competition, bring us conflicts and hurt that are difficult to treat. Henceforward we must discard the competition and conflicts for the selfish interests to direct towards a new world of ‘care’ and ‘concern’ and ‘cure’ in which everyone cares about each other. In Yangming studies, the basis of ‘care’, ‘concern’ and ‘cure’ can be seen in the conception of ‘Innate knowledge’. The Innate knowledge is the very main agent of ‘sense of pain’ (痛覺) and the ‘empathy’ (感通). The ‘sense of pain’ means I feel hurt as my own pain when other beings get damaged, and the empathy means because I feel hurt then I try to express my concern about other beings, and take care of them, and seek a cure for their pains. Even in the Fourth industrial revolution, for others who need our helping hand, we must live together, taking care of them and trying to find the cure for their pains, based on the Innate knowledge. Only with them can we live a really worthy life and do not become slaves of machines and knowledge.
Third, the mutual generation and the co-existence for the beings as a One. The era of Fourth industrial revolution is called ‘hyper-connected society’. Hyper-connected society is the society in which not only man and man but also man and nature, man and other beings in the world connect, exceeding all spatial limitations. In Yangming studies, all beings are seen as only one living thing in which all members live together in an organic network with mutual relations. Man is the heart of the universe and the nature, that is to say man is the subject of the sense of pain–feeling hurt as his own pain when seeing the damage of the life of the nature, and the subject of the empathy–trying to find the cure for that pain of the nature. In the hyper-connected society, man must become the subject of sense of pain and empathy with all other beings. Of course we must feel hurt as our pain and find the cure for other people and other natural things’ pain. And when seeing from the viewpoint of the doctrine of ‘all things as a One’, all artificial things such as Artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicle, Internet of things, robots etc are also one part of all living things. Thus they also must be seen preciously as the object of sense of pain and empathy, and we must open a way to live together with them harmoniously.
