초록

본 연구는 실내유희법선집 부록인 <시조 백선(百選)>을 축적적 문화담론의 관점에서 분석한다. <시조 백선>은 단순한 시조집이 아니라, 시어의 의미를 보다 명확히 전달하기 위해 한글과 한자를 병기하는 방식을 채택하였다. 이는 단순한 놀이적 기능을 넘어 독자의 교양 함양을 목표로 했음을 시사한다. 특히, 한글 음을 그대로 한자로 병기한 경우뿐만 아니라 의미를 강조하는 방식으로 한자를 선택하여 작품 해석에 도움을 주었다.
실내유희법선집 의 편집진은 시조를 단순한 유희의 도구가 아니라 교육적·교양적 측면에서 활용하고자했으며, 주요 독자로 남성을 고려한 편찬 방식을 취하였다. 그러나 당시 시조놀이는 여성 향유층이 주를 이루었기에, 이들 독자층을 고려하여 ‘화가투’용 <시조 백선>을 부록으로 수록하는 전략을 병행하였다. 이는 상업적 목적을 염두에 둔 편집 방침으로 해석할 수 있다. 또한 본 연구에서는 <시조 백선>이 기존 시조집과 동시대 시조집과의 관계 속에서 형성된 축적적 문화 담론을 반영하고 있음을 분석하였다. 다른 가집과의 비교를 통해 <시조 백선>이 기존 시조집을 참고하여 편찬되었음을 확인하였다. 예를 들어, 특정 시어와 문구의 변화 등을 통해 편집진이 당대의 미감을 반영하여 시조를선택하고 구성하였음을 알 수 있다. 한편, <시조 백선>만의 독창적인 시적 표현과 미감이 나타나는 부분도 존재한다. 기존 시조집과 비교했을때, 일부 작품에서 독창적인 시어 선택과 문구 변형이 이루어졌으며, 이는 단순한 계승이 아닌 당대의 정서와문학적 감각이 반영된 결과로 볼 수 있다. 대표적으로 ‘내 마음 헐어내여 저 달을 맨들과저’와 같이 자기희생적표현을 강조하는 방식이 특징적으로 드러난다. 결론적으로, <시조 백선>은 단순히 ‘화가투’용 시조집이 아니라, 축적적 문화담론의 한 축을 담당하는 문학적 자료로서의 가치를 지닌다. 본 연구를 통해 <시조 백선>이 단순한 유희를 위한 시조집이 아니라, 전통 시조 문헌을 계승하고 동시대의 문화적 감각을 반영한 문화 담론의 역할을 했음을 확인할 수 있다.

영어초록

This study analyzes Sijo Baekseon(百選), an appendix to Interior Game Way Anthology, from the perspective of cumulative cultural discourse. Sijo Baekseon is not merely a collection of sijo poems; rather, it adopts a dual-script approach, presenting both Hangul and Chinese characters to convey the meanings of poetic words more clearly. This suggests that the collection aimed beyond mere entertainment, aspiring to cultivate the reader’s intellectual refinement. Notably, the selection of Chinese characters was not limited to phonetic transcription but was also employed to emphasize meaning, thereby aiding the interpretation of the works.
The editors of Sijo Baekseon sought to utilize sijo not just as a tool for amusement but also as an educational and cultural medium, targeting a primary readership of men. However, given that women constituted the predominant audience for sijo games at the time, the editors strategically included Sijo Baekseon as an appendix for “Hwagat-tu” (a poetic word game). This can be interpreted as an editorial decision with commercial considerations in mind.
Additionally, this study examines how Sijo Baekseon reflects cumulative cultural discourse through its relationship with earlier and contemporary sijo collections. A comparative analysis with other anthologies confirms that Sijo Baekseon was compiled with reference to existing sijo literature. For example, variations in specific poetic words and phrases indicate that the editors selected and structured the sijo in a way that reflected the aesthetic sensibilities of the time.
Meanwhile, Sijo Baekseon also exhibits unique poetic expressions and aesthetics. Compared to previous sijo collections, some works feature original word choices and modified phrases, demonstrating that it was not merely an act of transmission but a reflection of contemporary sentiment and literary sensibilities. A notable example is the phrase, “Tearing apart my heart to tether the moon,” which highlights a self-sacrificial expression characteristic of the collection.
In conclusion, Sijo Baekseon is not merely a sijo collection for “Hwagat-tu” but a literary work that holds value as part of the cumulative cultural discourse. This study reaffirms that Sijo Baekseon was not just a compilation of sijo for entertainment but played a role in both inheriting traditional sijo literature and reflecting the cultural sensibilities of its time.
