김동리 시집『패랭이꽃』에 대한 연구 (A Study on『Chinese Pink』in Kim Dong-ri's Collection of Poems)

초록

본 연구는 김동리의 두 번째 시집『패랭이꽃』에 대한 연구이다. 그의 시 속에 빈번하게 등장하는 ‘저승, 고향, 꽃’을 중심으로 어떻게 기호체계를 구축하고 해체되며 기호작용을 하는가를 살펴보았다. 특히 그러한 양상을 통하여 화자가 어떻게 상징계를 벗어나 무의식적 공간에 소외되어 있는 주체적 욕망을 찾아가는가를 고찰하였다.
저승은 일상적 삶의 공간인 이승과 대립되며 기호체계를 구축하는데 화자는 이승에 머물고 있으면서도 늘 무관심하며 저승으로 돌아가기를 원한다. 그곳은 심리적으로 볼 때 상징계로부터 떠난 무의식적 공간을 상징한다. 그리고 그곳에는 ‘이상적 어머니’ 또는 ‘자아의 이상’이 존재한다.
고향은 일상적 공간과의 사이에 여러 겹의 매개적 공간기호가 개입함으로써 대립된다. 그리고 사회적 공간으로 편입되지 않은 ‘사이’, 즉 상징계의 ‘빈자리’에 있다. 화자는 늘 일상적 공간으로부터 떠나 그곳으로 돌아가기를 원하며 고향을 찾아가는 길, 즉 매개적 공간에서 고향을 상상하기도 한다. 그 고향은 앞의 시들에서 나타나는 저승과 동위소로서 고유한 욕망이 소외된 채 존재하는 곳이다. 고향에 돌아옴으로써 그곳에 존재하는 ‘이상적 어머니’를 만나 이상적 자아를 찾으려 한다.
김동리의 시에서 꽃은 ‘고향’ 또는 ‘저승’, 즉 일상적인 공간으로부터 벗어난 무의식적 공간에 존재한다. 그리고 여러 식물 기호 역시 그 꽃과 동위소이다. 그러한 꽃은 늘 그곳을 찾아온 화자의 고유한 욕망의 대상이요, ‘상징적 어머니’의 대신이다. 앞에서 밝힌 것처럼 화자가 저승과 고향을 그리워하고 찾는 까닭은 그 무의식적 공간에서 꽃을 만나 이상적 자아로 거듭나기 위한 것이다.
이상에서 살펴 본 것처럼 이승과 저승의 대립은 타향과 고향에 대응된다. 그리고 이승과 타향은 일상적 삶의 현장인 상징계를, 저승과 타향은 무의식적 공간인 상징계를 상징하는 공간이다. 화자가 이승으로부터 저승으로, 타향으로부터 고향으로 가고자 하는 것은 타자의 욕망으로 구성된 환상을 타파하려는 심리적 노력이다. 그리고 무의식적 공간을 상징하는 그곳에서 꽃, 즉 ‘상징적 어머니’를 만나 고유한 욕망의 주체가 되려는 것이다. 김동리 시집에서 나타나는 공간기호체계의 구축과 해체의 양상은 이러한 욕망을 일관적으로 암시하고 있다.

영어초록

This is a study on『Chinese Pink』in Kim Dong-ri's second collection of poems. It examined how the semiosis is made with being implemented and dismantled the symbolic system centering on 'the afterworld, hometown, flower,' which appear frequently in his poetry. Especially through such aspect, it considered how a speaker proceeds with searching for subjective desire of being isolated in the unconscious space, with escaping from the symbolic.
The afterworld implements the symbolic with being opposed to this world, which is space of daily life. The speaker is always indifferent even with remaining in this world, and wants to return to the afterworld. That place symbolizes the unconscious space of having left from the symbolic given seeing psychologically. And, 'ideal mother' or 'ideal ego' exists in that place.
Hometown is confronted by being intervened the intermediate spatial symbol in several folds in a gap with daily space. And, it exists in 'space,' which isn't included in social space, namely, in 'empty place' of the symbolic. The speaker wants to return to that place always with leaving from the daily space, and also imagines a way of proceeding with seeking for hometown, namely, the hometown in the intermediate space. As the hometown is isotopie with the afterworld that appears in the above poems, it is a place that a peculiar desire exists with being isolated. Returning to hometown leads to meeting 'ideal mother' of existing in that place and to trying to seek for ideal ego.
In Kim Dong-ri's poetry, a flower exists in unconscious space of escaping from 'hometown' or 'the afterworld,' namely, from daily space. And, even the symbol in several plants is also isotopie with the flower. Such flower is the subject of unique desire in the speaker who always returned to the place, and substitutes for 'symbolical mother.' As clarified in the above, a reason that the speaker longs for and seeks for the afterworld and hometown is for being reborn as ideal ego by meeting flower in its unconscious space.
As examined in the above, the confrontation between this world and the afterworld is corresponded to another country and hometown. And, this world and another country are the space of symbolizing the symbolic that is the field of daily life. The afterworld and another country are the space of symbolizing the symbolic that is the unconscious space. What the speaker aims to return to the afterworld from this world and to the hometown from another country is a psychological effort to overthrow fantasy that was formed from the other's desire. And, it aims to be the main agent of a peculiar desire by meeting flower, namely, 'ideal mother' in that place of symbolizing the unconscious space. The aspect of implementing and dismantling the spatial symbolic system, which appears in Kim Dong-ri's collection of poems, is suggesting this desire consistently.
