    초록

The purpose of this study was to verify the effects of regular Tai Chi exercise on blood inflammatory indicators and lipid metabolism variables in obese men according to age. In this study, obese male college students in their 20s and obese male faculty members in their 40s who voluntarily wish to participate at A university in X city were selected as subjects. Subjects who had not recently participated in a regular exercise program were assigned to a college student group in their 20s(n=20) and a meddle-aged male faculty member in their 40s(n=20).
Three sessions/week for 12 weeks (total 36 sessions) were performed. Tai Chi exercise intensities were set at 50%-80% of the heart rate reserve (HRR). After 12 weeks of Tai Chi exercise, changes in inflammatory and lipid indicators in the blood of the two groups were analyzed. Based on the results of the study, the following results were obtained.
As a result of conducting Tai Chi exercise for 12 weeks, c-reactive protein (CRP) was found to decrease in the 40s group (p<.001), but there was no significant difference in the 20s group. In the 40s group, compared to the 20s group, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) was found to decrease further (p<.001), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) showed no difference between the two groups.
For the change in lipid metabolism variables, low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and total cholesterol (TC) were more decreased in the 40s group (p<.01), and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) was further increased (p<.001). Triglyceride (TG) did not show a difference in the amount of change between the two groups.
In conclusion, 12 weeks of Tai Chi exercise brought about positive changes in blood inflammatory indicators and lipid metabolism variables in obese men in their 20s and 40s. In particular, these results are expected to be more effective in preventing various diseases caused by physical and mental stress in obese working men in their 40s.
