서울 호암산성 체성 및 제2우물지 축조수법 연구 (A Study on the Construction Techniques of the Seoul Hoam Fortress Walls and the Second Well Site)

초록

제2우물지가 위치한 서울 호암산성은 해발고도가 340m 이상이며 암벽으로 둘러싸여 있는 지형으로 천연암벽(초벽장)에 해당한다. 호암산성은 서울 서남부권역인 한강 하류와 안양천 일대가 감제되는 곳으로 인천 계양산성, 서울 양천고성, 고양 행주산성 석성이 보인다. 호암산성은 둘레가 약 1,547m로 비교적 큰 성의 규모이며 주변 산성으로 1,500m 이상의 둘레를 가진 신라산성은 하남 이성산성, 용인 석성산성, 광주 남한산성 정도 있다.
호암산성 체성 외벽은 암벽을 착암하여 그 위에 바로 성돌을 쌓거나 기대는 수법을 통해 마찰력을 높여 붕괴의 위험성을 낮추었다. 이로 인해 외벽 기저부에는 지대석이나 기단보축 또는 보축성벽이 없을 수 있지만, 이는 체성의 구간마다 수개축 축조수법이 다를 수 있어 차후 발굴조사 성과가 주목된다. 체성 외벽은 초축, 1차 수개축, 2차 수개축의 변화양상이 파악되며 축조시기는 신라 · 통일신라 · 고려시대로 추정된다.
제2우물지는 능선에서 곡부가 시작되는 지점을 암반까지 노출한 다음, 바닥 전체를 점토로 정지하였으며 지형이 높은 지역은 얇게, 낮은 지형은 두껍게 하였다. 부분적으로는 암반을 착암하여 쌓은 곳도 있다. 제2우물지는 평면 장방형에, 상 · 중 · 하단의 3단인 계단형의 단면이다. 그리고 내벽 면석 뒤채움은 석축과 토축으로 구성되며 토층과 출토유물을 통해 초축(통일신라) 이후 2번의 수개축(고려) 흔적이 명확히 구분된다.
제2우물지의 성격은 고려시대 전기에 대대적인 수개축과 준설 과정을 통해 의례적인 행위를 했던 것 같고, 여러 근거를 통해 호암산성 내외 경관과 어우러진 정원용 원지가 주요 성격이며 부수적으로는 서문지와 연계된 성내 유수 조절 및 방화수의 기능 등 다양한 역할을 수행했던 것으로 추정된다.

영어초록

The Hoam Fortress (虎巖山城), where the Second Well Site is located, sits at an altitude of over 340 meters and is surrounded by natural rock cliffs. It is situated in a strategic area in the southwestern region of Seoul, overlooking the lower reaches of the Han River and Anyangcheon Stream. From this vantage point, other fortresses such as Gyeonggi’s Gyeyang Fortress in Incheon, Yangcheon Ancient Fortress in Seoul, and Haengju Fortress in Goyang are visible. Hoam Fortress has a relatively large circumference of approximately 1,547 meters. Among nearby fortresses, those with a circumference exceeding 1,500 meters and dating back to the Silla period include Iseong Fortress in Hanam, Seokseong Fortress in Yongin, and Namhansanseong Fortress in Gwangju.
The outer walls of the Hoam Fortress were constructed by cutting into the natural rock and directly stacking or leaning fortress stones on the rock surface. This method increased friction and reduced the risk of collapse. As a result, the outer wall base may lack foundational stones, pedestal reinforcements, or supplementary retaining walls. However, since the construction techniques may vary across different sections of the fortress walls, future excavation findings are of significant interest. The outer walls exhibit variations in construction methods across the initial construction phase, the first reconstruction phase, and the second reconstruction phase.
The Second Well Site is located at the point where the ridge transitions into a valley. The bedrock was exposed, and the entire floor was leveled with clay, applied thinly in higher areas and more thickly in lower areas. In some sections, the bedrock was cut and stacked. The Second Well Site features a rectangular plan and a stepped cross-section divided into three tiers: upper, middle, and lower. The inner wall’s surface stones are filled behind with a combination of stone and soil layers. Through stratigraphic analysis and excavated artifacts, it is clear that there were two phases of reconstruction following the initial construction.
The Second Well Site appears to have served ceremonial purposes during the early Goryeo period through processes of reconstruction and dredging. Based on various pieces of evidence, its primary function seems to have been a garden pond harmonizing with the internal and external landscape of Hoam Fortress. Additionally, it is presumed to have performed various secondary roles, such as controlling water flow within the fortress in connection with the West Gate site and serving as a source of fire prevention water.
