초록

이 글은 유연의 일련의 행동을 일종의 우울증으로 보고 그 의미를 찾는 것을 목적으로 한다. 유연의 행동 양상은 크게 세 부분으로 나눌 수 있다. 소설의 초반부 종통의 자리에서 행동하는 양상과 폐장당한 이후의 행동 양상, 이후 가부장의 자리에 올라 가권을 잡은 이후의 행동 양상이 그것이다. 유연의 행동의 변화에는 그의 무의식 속에 자리 잡은 아버지와의 관계가 원인이 되며 이를 ‘억제-퇴행-동일시’로 나누어 살펴볼 수 있다.
리비도는 유아기에 어머니를 향한 성적 욕망으로 드러나게 되며 어머니의 부재는 아버지 유정경을 어머니를 향한 리비도의 대리인으로 설정한다. 리비도의 어머니에게서 아버지로 옮겨 간 리비도는 일련의 사건들로 인해 억제 당한다. 유정경은 유연의 성품과는 상관없이 동생 유홍만을 편애한다. 이유 없는 편애에도 유연은 굴하지 않고 아버지와 동생에게 효우(孝友)를 다한다. 리비도의 ‘억제’ 단계가 이에 해당한다.
유정경은 유홍을 승종시키려 마음먹는다. 유연은 잡혀 와서도 아버지에게 누덕(累德)이 될까 이를 염려하여 양광 행세를 하고 결국 미친 모습을 본 유씨 일가는 유정경의 뜻을 따른다. 리비도의 ‘퇴행’ 단계이다. 유연이 우울증 증세를 보이는 것은 이 직후의 상황이다. 유연이 종통의 자리에서 물러나게 된 사건 후에 밥을 먹으려 하지 않거나, 죽기 위해 노력하는 행동들은 자아의 잔혹한 멸시, 무자비한 자기비판과 같이 모두 우울증 증세를 명확히 보여주는 일례라 하겠다.
이후 유연은 아버지의 자리를 차지하며 우울증을 회복한다. ‘동일시’ 과정에 해당한다. 우울증을 회복하며 아버지를 상징적으로 살해한 유연은 아버지의 모습과 동일한 양상의 모습을 보여주며 자신의 권력을 증명한다. 유연은 아버지를 상징적으로 살해한 후 그 자리에 위치한다. 이것이 곧 가부장권의 행세이자 억제된 리비도의 분출이다.
유연의 우울증은 크게 두 가지 의미를 지닌다. 첫째, 유연의 우울증적 증세는 반동인물인 유정경과 유홍을 비판하기 위한 장치로 작용한다. 둘째, 우울증을 해소해 나가는 유연의 삶은 유연이 성숙한 인격체가 되는 과정을 보여주는 것이라 할 수 있다. 억제되어 있던 리비도를 점차적으로 해소하는 양상은 유연이 하나의 성숙한 인격체로 성장하는 과정을 보여주는 것이다.

This study aims to find out the meaning of Yuyeon's behavior as a kind of depression. Behavior of Yuyeon can be divided into three parts. There is Behavior in the successor of the family, Behavioral Patterns after Expulsion and Behavior after being a patriarch and capturing power. The change in Yuyeon's behavior is caused by his relationship with his father who is in his unconscious mind. This can be divided into 'suppression-regression-dentification'.
Libido is revealed in sexual desire toward mother in infancy. The absence of mother sets father Yujeonggyong as libido's agent for mother. The libido moved from mother to father is suppressed by a series of events. Yujeonggyong favors his son Yuhong alone, regardless of Yuyeon's character. Yuyeon does not care about the reasonless favoritism and does the best for his father and his brother. However, Yuyeon's behavior and Yujeonggyong's behavior against it are contradictory. Yujeonggyong persecutes Yuyeon. This step is the inhibition phase of libido.
Yujeonggyong tries to change his successor to Yuhong. Yuyeon pretends to be crazy when he gets caught. Because he worried about his father. In the end, the family members who saw Yuyeon's madness follow the meaning of Yujeonggyong. This step is a regression of libido. Yuyeon shows signs of depression just after this situation. Yuyeon is lying on the ground over five days after he retires to a separate house in the rear. And he keeps pretending to be mad. This is a very different aspect of the novel at the beginning of this novels, in which he actively scolds his brother or makes comments to his father. After Yuyeon's withdrawal from his successor, the act of not eating or trying to die is an example of a clearly manifestation of depressive symptoms, such as cruel contempt of self, ruthless self-criticism.
Afterwards, Yuyeon takes up his father's position and restores his depression. This step is an identification step. Yuyeon restores depression and symbolically kills his father. After that, he shows the same aspect of his father and proves his power. Yuyeon is located on the spot after symbolically killing his father. Yuyeon achieves unity with his father, and takes part of his father's strength as his strength. This is the patriarch authority and the release of suppressed libido.
Yuyeon 's depression has two main meanings. First, Yuyeon's depression acts as a device to criticize the negative figures Yujeonggyong and Yuhong. Second, the life of Yuyeon resolving depression is a demonstration of the process of becoming a mature person. He sometimes spouts libido, and when he loses his target to shoot, he transitions it to other objects and is also inhibited by libido. In this process, he suffers from depression. The gradual elimination of the suppressed libido is a process in which Yuyeon grows into a mature person.
